After catching the cold/flu for the 3rd time in the last 2 months, I finally decided to get the flu jab.

…but that’s now been cancelled because the flu jab nurse is ill too xD

Goodness, from looking at my email inbox today - it seems like everybody is upset with the Budget for a multitude of reasons, yikes 😬

In other news, our lift has just stopped working. I doubt it’s got anything to do with Cloudflare but it’s a funny coincidence.

Yes, I should probably get off the Internet and go outside 🤣😭

X seems to be back but you can’t upload any photos.

Anyway, here’s the information I’ve collected so far about the #Cloudflare outage:

X is back! But right now, I can’t seem to post anything. Anybody else having the same experience?

Not LMAO, all my builds are broken because the testing library is hosted on CloudFlare.
LMAO, stack overflow is down because cloud flare is down.

It is 2005, the internet is a distributed network of servers designed so that no one outage can take down the entire network

It is 2025, the internet relies on three companies, problems with any one of which can cripple a significant proportion of the global economy
there’s a major AWS outage going on right now that’s taken down Fortnite, Alexa, Snapchat, Perplexity, Roblox, and lots more of the internet. US-EAST-1 is down and impacting a lot of services that rely on AWS www.theverge.com/news/802486/...

Question: Everyone else in the world affected by the #Cloudflare outage, if you go to cloudflarestatus.com, do you get a similar page to what I’ve got but with your geographic region listed?
Does it say that your WARP access has been disabled too?

The last day of @websummit.bsky.social was a blast! 🎤

Chris Ballance of IonQ and I chatted about #quantum chips based on trapped ions, then I delved into superconducting quantum applications in aerospace with Mirko Reuter of @airbus.com Defence & Dr. Juan Bernabe Moreno of IBM Research Europe.

Hello from @websummit.bsky.social in Lisbon, Portugal! 👋🏼

Today I spoke abt chip shortages & #cloud sovereignty at the Economic Policy Summit, plus interviewing an electric truck startup & #AI autonomous software firm abt the future of logistics at Machine Summit.

Back tomorrow to chat quantum 😉

I'm off to Lisbon today for @websummit.bsky.social, where I'll be speaking and moderating panels, plus hunting for cool new ideas to cover.

Seeing that someone has resigned from the BBC tonight. That person directly aided and abetted in bullying me and is one of the reasons I left the BBC.

Karma’s a bitch, isn’t it?

Pleased to announce that I'll be speaking and moderating at @websummit.bsky.social in Lisbon next week.

I'm also actively looking for story ideas relating to emerging tech, tech policy and anything cool or quirky, so feel free to pitch me!

A major overhaul of IT infrastructure in just-in-time power networks across the Western world is needed as it's incredibly easy to overwhelm national grids - we're just lucky that attackers haven't bothered, so far.

Here's my latest for @theregister.com🔐:

I was asked on air twice yesterday re the #AWS outage but was busy. From seeing analysis tho, I'm glad I didn't - no journalist could have told you how this happened. "DNS" is not an answer.

Unless I can explain it the way @quinnypig.com has, I don't bother:

Everyone keen on sovereign cloud & on-premise cloud is having a field day with the AWS outage xD

The problem is the region US-EAST-1, which is the default when you open the AWS console. A lot of firms use it as it’s the oldest, largest & therefore offers cheaper prices for on-demand capacity.

I’m not sure what London Mayor Sadiq Khan thinks Apple & Samsung can do abt phone thefts.

A method that could work wld be to create a list of stolen IMEI numbers & get mobile operators around the world to block them so they don’t work whichever SIM card you put in…

Me: It's so great to see #quantum mechanics, the foundations of superconducting qubits, recognised by the Nobel committee.

I don’t usually want to promote a feature from a tech company, but I really like this idea. Helping to prevent AI content scrapers is definitely ethical behaviour that I can get behind. 👍🏼
To address the concerns our customers have today about how their content is being used by crawlers and data scrapers, we are launching the Content Signals Policy. https://cfl.re/4pCJdTL #BirthdayWeek
