ICU Studies - Refresher:

Are you using the IVC diameter to "predict" if an ICU patient is "fluid responsive" (FR)?

This was an important multi-center descriptive study conducted during a 2-yr period in 5 French ICUs

540 ventilated patients w shock of various origins underwent

New platform, re-sharing our recent sex differences in cardiogenic shock SRMA:

-Women are ⬆️ likely to die than men (35% unadjusted, 10% adjusted for comorbidities)
-Women ⬇️ less likely to recieve mechanical support

Urgent need to understand these differences & enroll more women in CS RCTs!
Sex differences in treatments and outcomes of patients with cardiogenic shock: a systematic review and epidemiological meta-analysis - Critical Care
Background Women are at higher risk of mortality from many acute cardiovascular conditions, but studies have demonstrated differing findings regarding the mortality of cardiogenic shock in women and m...

I got tired of opening a dozen PDFs to find the ECMO pressure/flow curve I need.

So I made an app!

Choose the cannula/size and you can see the max flow for a given pressure drop. Or compare multiple different cannula.

Lmk what ya’ll think. Useful? What’s it need?

Among critically ill adults who received invasive mechanical ventilation for more than 24 hrs, screening frequency (once-daily vs more frequent screening) & SBT technique (pressure-supported vs T-piece SBT) did not change the time to successful extubation.

Happy to share our work developing a method for matching heart transplant donors-to-recipients using echo-derived donor left ventricular mass (LVM) for size matching which improved outcomes (especially in obese patients).
