When I was little, PE was hard. I have a visual impairment, and things like hitting a softball are pretty challenging. I remember our 6th grade PE class did a softball unit...and instead of having someone hit the ball for me...they had someone run? Well meaning, but confusing.
Disabled folks, what are some useless accommodations/adjustments you've seen offered? Like good intent, bad implementation?

'Behind the Scenes at the Museum' - my introduction to Kate Atkinson, and the way she played with time, and formatting the book, and the construct of reading...was... it was a gift as a devoted reader, because it made my mind do somersaults in the most unexpected and exciting ways.
performative reading, lack of reading skills, nobody's reading anymore -- NO!

tell me about a book that changed you

for me? the *extremely* ahistorical novel, THE AGONY AND THE ECSTASY which I read at 13 and was like, "Oh, art can be *everything* to a maker, for good and bad"

Client's caregiver brought their dog for show and tell.
They said that the dog wears a vest in public because it's a service dog, but they actually meant emotional support dog, and the way I had to bite my lip!! Not like dogs are a lifelong abiding interest for me or anything.

I wanted client to participate in 2 minutes of story, but they were satiated. I pivoted, and gave myself a 2 minute break - a little disassociation, as a treat. It did help. They had access to toys, and I was able to come back to them, a little more regulated. Also, modeling!!
Like I need a period of time to sit in silence. I need a period of time to do focused quiet work. They can be relatively short periods. But it’s shocking to me how impossible it is to obtain those needs. And if autistic teachers are struggling, autistic students are in hell.

My most significant source of autistic stress is knowing what I can be when I have the right conditions (and like they’re not crazy!!!) and feeling like literally every minute of every day, various factors are coinciding to make that version of myself impossible.

The average SNAP benefit per month is $177 a person.

The average ACA benefit per month is up to $550 a person.

People want us to hold the line for a reason. This is not a matter of appealing to a base. It’s about people’s lives.

And working people want leaders whose word means something to them.

We sold out 2 tamale vendors, bought out 2 more vendors, and absolutely swarmed a family owned bakery. It was a good day with some the very best of #BikeChi 🥰 for the 4th installment of the Street Vendor Bike Tour. We persist. ✊🏽

Hi hello, your friendly neighborhood museumhead here with a PSA that if you live in NYC or have ANY opportunity to get to NYC before February, the Ruth Asawa exhibition at MoMA is the best thing I’ve seen all year.
