1/ NEW: We identified 20 people who attended a white nationalist conference and, despite their efforts to keep it secret, caught another 30 people on film to identify in the future. Several MMA/combat sports instructors were discovered and their gyms have cut ties.

No one warns you about how attached you get to kitchen utensils that you've had over 20 years. My carrot peeler broke today (it literally pounced out of the dishwasher rack and broke in half on the floor). I have others. They are not good peelers. I have the sad.

With a “WOW!,” President Trump posts a claim about DOGE and “royalties linked to Obamacare” that originated on a satirical website. That site’s own About section reads: “Everything on this website is fiction… If you believe that it is real, you should have your head examined.”

pre-writing a devastating obituary for your enemy is god-tier hating of a kind you don’t often see anymore. renaissance haterism. beautiful stuff.
A Sharon Begley byline, almost 5 years after her death.

Upon hearing the news James Watson had died, a STAT reporter said in our Slack, "I wish I could read what Sharon would have written."

Incredible news: Sharon in fact did pre-write a Watson obit. And it is masterful and excoriating.

Panera’s moderately caffeinated lemonade was loosely associated with 2 deaths before it was taken off market.

This article alone has 4 examples of ChatGPT encouraging young people to commit suicide, and OpenAI’s own public stats estimate over a million users discuss suicide with ChatGPT each week.

You know gym culture is getting toxic/obsessive when students ask how long the day/lab will be, because they "have to get to the gym" -- I have seen more of this question in the last 4 months than I have had in my 15 years of teaching.

Will Banning Baited Shark Diving Off Florida Make Our Seas Safer?
Bipartisan legislation would ban the practice of feeding sharks off Florida’s coast, which supporters say will keep people safer and reduce conflict with recreational anglers. But the scientific evide...

As a scuba diver who has had (peaceful) shark encounters in the wild, I absolutely do not want operators teaching sharks to associate boats and divers with food.

There are very valid reasons you don’t feed wildlife on land. Don’t start doing it underwater.

If Tim Houston is so concerned about democracy, he’d sit in the legislature for more than eight days, wouldn’t override decisions of Halifax regional council, would talk with reporters, and wouldn’t consider giving part of a provincial park to a private developer for a golf course.

my city still talks about 'shared responsibility', which is entirely the wrong framing, and the road death number is likely to be very high this year.
Drivers need to not break the law and kill people. Full stop.
When you’re hit by a car, try not to die. It’s a real bummer for the driver.

Here's another bit of conventional wisdom Zohran completely blew away: His speech was at well above a 10th-grade level. It was complex, erudite, punctuated by deep and fluent references. You don't have to condescend to voters with baby talk! Part of re-establishing norms is speaking like an adult.

Congrats on the loss, Toronto. It was a masterpiece
It’s easy to focus on the little things after a loss as heartbreaking as this one, but the Blue Jays played one of the greatest games of baseball ever

Epitome of driver-entitlement witnessed this morning: a dump truck was waiting to turn left into a construction site. It can't turn in 3 seconds, so TWO SUVs behind it swerved out around it on the LEFT hand side. I don't know about you, but I don't wanna ever get in the way of a dump truck.

Yeah, this is what I wrestle with -- a college freshman today was only nine when Trump first ran for president. They've grown up with him as a baseline, not an aberration.
It's odd for me to realize that my first-year undergraduates are at an age where they don't really remember that there was a form of US politics prior to Donald Trump. For them, Trump is not an aberration from the normal course of political discourse, but just how US politics is done.
