american masculinity is so amazing. caring about clothes as a man apparently makes you "gay" but our position on geopolitics totally depends on whether you wear a suit

Blocking anyone who is mildly sus immediately and without particular emotional engagement is obviously the best way to go but once in a while it would be nice to have a block option that ALSO produces an animation of the profile being flushed down a toilet or maybe the text melting gruesomely away

My favorite part of American healthcare is paying them to perform a service and then getting on the phone with them *every* month to convince them to do the thing I pay them for

Ok, stop having clever conversations for the next couple of hours. I have writing to do and it gives me FOMO knowing you are all on here being smart, witty, an using the correct form of to, too, their, they're, and there.

Don’t let the desire to make “good” art stand in the way of making art.
Make bad art earnestly and joyfully. Pour your heart into poorly executed, derivative creations. And maybe it will end up “good” eventually or maybe it won’t, but either way you got to experience the magic of creating.

RPGs should by default include options to change a character's appearance and stats. I am indecisive and I need developers to enable me

This is so good. [Write something good here later] is an underrated tactic
Stuck in a scene? Do what the pros do: use brackets. Write what the story beat is:

[Our hero gets out of the fight through clever means]

Then just keep writing what happens after. Maintaining momentum is key to getting the most words on the page. Meanwhile solutions often present themselves later.

My writing process is usually:

a) I got this
b) well, fuck
c) wait that part was real good
d) wait no that part sucks
e) I am a god of this place
f) the fuck is this shit, who do I think I am, why am I here
g) oh man I just figured it all out
h) mistakes were made
I) existential dread

GMing is a gateway hobby to a ton of other things. Writing, painting minis, wargaming, reading more widely, collecting cool RPGs I'll never get to play

Six decades later, Star Trek may still be the only franchise based on the ideas that diversity is strength, justice is the measure of civilization, bounty is to be shared, peace is worth the price, and all these things can be achieved.

We need more shows that look ahead and find goodness.

Space Marine 2 is to masculinity what Hades is to bisexuality (I won't elaborate)

I must not dunk.
Dunks are the time-killer
Dunks are the little stress that bring on social alienation
I will ignore bad takes
I will allow them to pass, or block them
And when they are off my feed I will read things that matter
And where the takes have gone there will be nothing
Only I will remain
Yep, I'm here to protect my peace. I will not fight random people on the internet.
I know temptation and old habits call us, but remember friends: when an anon rando with no platform has a weird bad take

You can just block them

I know, the optimists amongst us think that surely a person wearing the trappings of reason can be reasoned with

Don't do it

Be free

What are you reading right now? I'm currently triple-dipping with:

Moby-Dick, to get it off my bucket list (and having way more fun with it than I expected!)

Children of Time, to get my sci-fi fix with a sprinkling of horror

Steering the Craft by LeGuin, which has been extremely useful so far

Books that have the "there's only one bed at the inn 😏" trope:

- many wonderful romance books

- Moby-Dick, for some reason

Hallmark needs to start making Hallowe’en romances. She’s a gal from the big city seeking a new life in a small town. He’s a mysterious horseman cursed to throw his flaming head at passersby for eternity. And when these two meet one night, sparks, and heads, will fly.

If you're a writer, translator, editor, anyone who works in writing, then you should read.

Read novels, short stories, articles, non-fiction, anything. Just read.
