always thought tech was weird AF for automating art and literature with AI.

art is not a problem to solve...

...unless the goal is to flatten the process, neutralizing art's potential as personal/social tool that *needs* time and critical thought. two things capitalism doesn't want us to have.

Anyone have a theory about why Bluesky (as opposed to Mastodon, Threads, etc) seems to be emerging as the consensus alternative to Twitter among social scientists?

With all the old rock stars showing their assess about trans shit lately, please remember that Jimmy Buffett went on record saying he thought all those bathroom bills that started the current panic were "stupid laws based on stupid assumptions."

RIP Jimmy

I'm "sat on the edge of the bed a little funny and now my knee is blown out for no reason" years old.

Recently had a spirited debate in a group chat where one of the youngins said they didn't like bidets because it made their ass wet. 1) You're using it wrong if that's the result. 2) Are we talking Europe or Arab-style? Because after many years abroad I will never live in a house without 1 of these.

The Blue Sky app doesn't have push notifications and I can't decide if I love that about it or hate it.

Okay where are all my #StarTrek people? I'm just exiting a HUGE project that has consumed all my spare time the last 4 months, so I'm behind on ALL my Trek.

What do I need to catch up on first?

Is it too soon to start asking for an edit button?

Yes, this is what I want.
there'll be multiple servers but we're prioritizing a super straightforward UX where you'll still be able to see & interact with content from servers that aren't your own

for people who don't care about all this stuff and just want an easy social networking experience, it should Just Work 👍

How's everyone finding your mutuals from the birds birdsite? Are we just supposed to find each other in the wild or is there a trick to it?

“They’ll teach twitter’s collapse in business schools”

Maybe? I guess so. Probably less informative than you’d think though. You could also show Wile E Coyote cartoons as part of OSHA training but most workers probably weren’t planning to glue firework rockets on their roller skates

Mariame Kaba has taught me a lot of things. One thing she taught me is to be skeptical of thinking nothing has changed. Because things are constantly changing and so we can push. Like she says in this interview. https://theintercept.com/2021/03/17/intercepted-mariame-kaba-abolitionist-organizing/

I find utopian science fiction (which, despite the conflicts in Star Trek I’d still say is more utopian than not) to be way more fascinating than dystopian.

It can be easy to whip up stories of a bad future. It takes real imagination & effort to imagine how an advanced ethical society could succeed
