Anyone looking for a good estimate, check out the Crowd Counting Consortium by @chenoweth.bsky.social and @djpressman.bsky.social—they’ve been doing this since Trump 1 and the data are sound!
We have self-reports or news accounts from 320 of the 2,000 No Kings Day events across the US today. Up to an unofficial tally of about 575,000 people now. Extrpaolating from that, total would be around 4.5m people, or about 1.3% of the pop. Some error I'm sure. Thanks to everyone crowdsourcing!
At midday Eastern Time, we have a crowdsourced, unofficial estimate of just over 32,000 people attending No Kings Day protests around the U.S. so far.
Please join us and add more data as more events get going.

Housing! The climate lever climate people should talk about more.
Late to it, but everyone should check out @mateosfo.bsky.social on @volts.wtf. Back when we worked together, Matt really opened my eyes about the nexus between housing and climate policy. It's well worth the hour so he can do that for you too.
Today on Volts: you may have noticed that some climate/energy types (like me) have become obsessed with housing & urban land use lately. Why? Why are they climate issues? What's the connection? The great @mateosfo.bsky.social and I attempt to answer those questions.

My friends and relatives who voted for Trump are not (always) racist. I learned from Ibram X. Kendi that people can be racist and anti-racist in the same day, same hour, same paragraph. We are complex and often contradictory creatures.

Damn amygdala.
The psychological challenge of climate change - our brains are hard-wired to respond to immediate threats, not a slow-motion disaster happening at a global scale (and that's not even considering the tsunami of misinformation hitting us every day).
