Preppers are not the same thing as conservatives. During COVID the real peppers were the ones who didn't bitch about lockdowns, wore masks, and got their families vaccinated as soon as it was possible. And they're the ones who have a stockpile of masks ready and waiting for the next pandemic.

I've never been one to automatically accept my culture's traditional norms just because they are traditional. The last five or so years were a crash course in why I also should not automatically reject my culture's traditional norms just because they are traditional.
