Researcher, educator and consultant. Veterinary epidemiologist and infectious disease expert.
Officially had my first federal grant terminated by the Trump administration. The grant supported a Center of Excellence at Cornell on Foodborne Illnesses. It supported dozens of researchers and students to help prevent foodborne diseases that make everyday people sick, and sometimes even kill them

For anyone who wants to understand more what is going on with bird flu, this is a great article that reviews why we don’t have a lot of good options. www.latimes.com/environment/...
Killing 166 million birds hasn’t helped poultry farmers stop H5N1. Is there a better way?
Poultry producers, disease experts and government officials are now questioning the practice of widespread culling in response to H5N1 bird flu outbreaks.

Scientists, as well as bureaucrats.

This is the head of OMB, folks. He coauthored Project 2025. This is the playbook we are seeing with the attacks on DEI efforts, on healthcare, on NSF and NIH funding.

They want us out of the way so they can destroy many institutions and resegregate the rest.

If I were Canadian PM I would immediately:

1. Create a new $15B science fund

2. Offer any credentialed US scientist funding for lab startup and replacement of NIH grants if they move to Canada

3. Immediate permanent residency

4. Citizenship after 2 years

Overnight a science superpower

I have NSF funding. Ours has already been distributed so I think we will keep it for this year, and thankfully it only pays some of my salary (Cornell will cover my salary if it disappears) and not my graduate students or staff who would not get that safety net.
