Hi all!

Been a while since I’ve been active on social media, so I figured it’s time for a proper intro. 👋

I’m an internal medicine/pediatrics ID doc at UNMC, focused on emerging and high-consequence pathogens—think epidemiology, surveillance, therapeutics, and especially operational guidance. 🦠

Like seriously. Wtaf
Who in the real world would actually say out loud that they were an untrustworthy person? Did he confuse the CDC head with Littlefinger from Game of Thrones?!
WARREN: Did you tell the head of the CDC that if she refused to sign off on your changes to the childhood vaccine schedule, that she had to resign?

RFK Jr: No. I told her she had to resign because I asked her 'are you a trustworthy person?" and she said no

WARREN: This is not what she has said

Description of our response to a large community TB exposure involving young kids.

We hope this helps other academic centers be able to partner with public health more easily- costs included to help convince your C suite that it’s a good idea!

A health department identified a large pediatric TB exposure at a drop-in daycare. An academic medical center partnered with public health to establish a rapid-response TB Exposure Clinic. This article detailed the experience and challenges. (@asato4kids.bsky.social‬ et al)

New moment of “WTF”:

-pt with rare infection (so rare will leave unnamed, as could reveal identity)
-nl times: reach out to CDC for testing
-now: “they confirmed they are not currently accepting specimens for serology…they suggested we could reach out to Canada National Reference Center”

“appears to contradict a pledge he made”

Such generous editors you have, @washingtonpost.com - It DIRECTLY contradicts a pledge he made.

Use your words. It’s all you have 🤬🤦🏻‍♂️
Health Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. is ousting all members of a key CDC vaccination advisory committee and replacing them with his own picks.

The move appears to contradict a pledge he made during his confirmation process.
RFK Jr. ousts all members of CDC vaccine advisory panel
Kennedy said the Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices, a group of experts who recommend vaccines, has been "plagued with persistent conflicts of interest."

Wonder how NEJM must feel right now, allowing that garbage commentary (by certain "officials"), followed by RFK Jr now hoping to bar NIH scientists from publishing there... Karma huh?

Americans are living in a Renaissance, not of sculpture and painting but of food. We decided to do a bonfire of the vanities about it.
A LOT of people do not want to hear it but in the United States at least, food has never been safer to eat, not to mention tastier
We are living in one of the few times in human history where you can buy a loaf of bread and if it says it’s made with wheat flour and salt and yeast and water and nothing else, it’s probably made from just those ingredients, and some people want to END this.

Costco is along my favorite companies, in large part because of the founders
Costco is a really popular subject for business-success case studies but I feel like business guys kinda lose interest when the upshot of the study is like "just operate with scrupulous integrity in all facets and levels of your business for four decades" and not some easy-to-fix gimmick

A reminder that illegally closing USAID & shuttering its programs will kill or harm millions.

One example: "the loss of U.S. support may mean 75 million children do not receive routine vaccinations in the next five years, with more than 1.2 million children dying as a result"
