No one makes it entirely on their own. If you benefit from a functioning society, you owe something back.

Corporate preference for automation should have already prompted adoption of universal basic income. Instead, fired workers invariably suffer financial insecurity and insults. Ignore this outcome for future fired workers at our peril.
"Just as the extraordinary crisis of the Great Depression required the bold policy of Social Security, the disruption caused by AI requires an equally bold response—a Social Security for everyone in the form of UBI."

AI Is taking jobs: Could universal basic income become a reality?
Forecasts that AI could erase tens of millions of jobs by the end of the decade appear to be making the notion of a guaranteed income less radical.

Every flashbang could instead be a meal for a poor kid. Every hotel room for a National Guardsman deployed to fire at our neighbors could house a homeless vet. Every "less-than-lethal" bullet pulled from a journalist's eye could be already needed healthcare for anyone else. All of this is a choice.

Fitting:

"Cameron believed that cops, institutionalized in a system that encourages them to abuse their power, were a perfect representation of the inhumanity that led to the creation of murderous robots."

If you gleefully claim your product will cut jobs, you are now contractually obligated to lobby for UBI. Sorry, those are the new rules!

Welcome to Trump's America, where you can bribe the president in exchange for legal immunity.

The United States was founded on the principle that everyone is subject equally to the law. MAGA is converting us into a mafia state, a haven for obscene criminality.

The facts are, the ACA saved millions with pre-existing conditions and set standards for care.

But now, more than a decade later, with what we now know, it’s time to take the insurance companies out of the mix.
The subsidies they get are enormous. We don’t need them as middlemen.

I've been researching the idea of Unconditional Universal Basic Income since 2013. Here's a collection of findings I've compiled from various UBI experiments and studies of cash transfer programs around the world.

This will be a VERY LONG and ongoing thread focused entirely on empirical evidence. 🧵

This is exactly what I mean when I say that there are political coalitions to build involving the various stakeholders and actors who have a direct interest in the construction of more housing. www.vox.com/policy/2024/...
What if public housing were for everyone?
Local governments are trying a new way to address the housing crisis.

Meta's "no politics allowed" stance is 1) itself a political position, and 2) so impossible to enforce that it's instead a perverse guarantee that what political content does surface will be absolutely deranged, in that the algorithms will be unable to identify it as conventionally political
