Hats off to Rachel Cohen, the latest addition to this photo. Working at a law firm down the street from Paul Weiss...not a target, yet. Resigned after the elite firms wouldn't stand up. What does she hear from other associates in comparable positions? "Gratitude" and advice for how to do the same.

from NYT interview w/Schumer: 1. no plan beyond hoping it wouldn't pass the Senate. 2. never understood it was a leverage time not a binary choice 3. sounded old and cranky. Conclusion: Time to go. Biden realized he had to step aside but too late. Schumer shouldn't wait for the Const to implode.

What do all of these conservatives have in common? They aren’t cowards, they understand what an oath is, they are not hypocrites. Oh. And unlike the majority of the GOP, they’ve got balls.

Probably not legal without the passage of law in Congress. But that doesn’t really seem to be relevant anymore. We are going to be looking to state government more and more now.
By canceling the installation of EV chargers, we'll have higher gasoline prices, higher emissions, and higher rates of asthma.

Also it's against the law
Trump just canceled the federal NEVI EV charger program

Not exactly the image we all grew up with of a coup with guns and a deposed leader flying to some other nation. But here we are.
get comfortable calling it what it is
This language describes a coup. You have to be a government employee, subject to the rules & procedures that bind gov employees, to do this kind of work. This is a blatant abuse of the public trust by the Trump administration, a true 5-alarm fire. www.wired.com/story/elon-m...

When Dahlia Lithwick reposts legal info, it might be taken with weight.
If each Treasury payee is a separate record, and there are, say, 68,000,000 social security payees (as is estimated), then at $5000 per violation, it seems like Elon could be penalized $340 billion if he unlawfully accessed their Treasury records...

Is someone going to sue on my behalf for the breach of my SSN and personal information? Who is doing this work? Because this ain’t just storing emails on an unsecured server in a basement that was more secure than the government server.
Federal law & decades of government practice provide Americans strong guarantees of confidentiality & security for their govt data.

With POTUS's blessing & federal pardon power behind them, individuals appear to be violating our rights, corrupting systems meant to operate for our benefit.
Arguably the biggest national security breach in U.S. history. Private employees downloading personnel data on every federal employee and tax and social security data on every American onto private unsecured servers. Needless to say, completely illegal and subject to major prison sentences.

This is not just a coup and a Constitutional crisis. It is a national security catastrophe for the United States from which there is no assurance we will ever fully recover. Not hyperbole. If foreign enemies had landed troops on our shores it’s unlikely they would’ve done as much damage as fast.

Mr. Rogers said “look to the helpers.” Independent media are among the most important helpers right now. There can be no rule of law without truth. Also, people like Marc Elias…another critical helper.
Do yourself and democracy a favor. Support independent media.

Thank you, Jen Rubin, for making sure climate and energy policy is in our discourse.
Undaunted : A responsible and informed president would continue the transition to green energy, an engine of jobs and economic growth. Unfortunately, voters chose Trump over Harris. Through it all, Al Gore has remained an undaunted champion of environmental sanity.

so 25% on 63% of the oil the US imports....
crude oil prices we use to make gas goes up 16%.

* now i'm ALL for more expensive gasoline, but this is a weird way to meet our former climate goals.

“It’s become fashionable…to explain that we…can’t just oppose Trump, can’t just resist Trump, can’t just seek to check Trump, can’t just work to defeat Trumpism.”

“The truth is closer to the opposite. Opposing, resisting, and checking Trump…are the prerequisites to preserving…the Constitution.”
"Trump made clear that a lawless presidency is at the core of his second term vision...Opposing, resisting, and checking Trump, and ultimately defeating Trumpism, are the prerequisites to preserving, protecting, and defending the Constitution of the United States."
