I recently got to spend some time learning about the history of Hawaii, and how the monarchy was overthrown by a "Committee on Safety" made up of rich white men, and I couldn't help but think of the "perfection" of the Palleseen Sway in the Tyrant Philosophers series by @aptshadow.bsky.social .

The Constitution is clear that only Congress, not the president, has the power to suspend habeas corpus. The Supreme Court doubled down on this in 1865, clarifying that the power was not delegated to the Executive Branch even in wartime.
