I'm convinced I'm the world's slowest writer but at least I've been sticking with my novel for the last 2 months. This is more than I've ever written, and for longer.

Reading about how “even mild COVID-19 infections can shrink the brain” and how infected people showed “decline in their mental abilities to perform complex tasks” for months really makes keeping my mask on a lot easier, I have to say

The deal seems to be that people can largely live like in pre-pandemic times as long as we accept getting miserably ill maybe twice a year (especially during family holidays), accept heightened risks of long-term health problems, and let old/vulnerable folks die. Doesn’t seem like a good deal to me.
