i think gqx shuji didn't work for me even though hes the same type of entity in the narrative that lalah is in 79 + kaworu is in nge is because they didn't use his screen time with the protags economically at all to convey what primal emotional need he is subsituting for them

its technically well written in terms of how it follows up every bit of narrative it sets up. lets put our characters in real life genocidal conflicts like the sri lankan genocide and have them shoot at everyone with no reflection on the ramifications of that. thats like in the first few episodes
