A very nice write-up of one of my BFFs from law school—even though it somehow fails to mention the impact of such defining law school moments like weekly Battlestar viewing and also the the Battlestar board game.

We were all extremely cool.
Bill Weaver, ’10, found his calling in the energy practice. “[I]t required the very kind of thinking we had been trained to do at the Law School, focusing on how incentives shape the intersection of competition, natural monopolies, and regulation in very complex systems,” he said.
Bill Weaver, ’10: An Energy Lawyer Plugged in to the Power Grid | University of Chicago Law School
When Bill Weaver, ’10, joined a big law firm after graduating, he found his calling in the firm’s energy practice, particularly the part of it dealing with electricity. “There were two primary things…

My favorite thing about a class of all 3Ls is that I get to share their last first day of school with them!

Happy last first day of school to my Deals students!

I’ve finally made it—a Bluesky account is impersonating me!

@cathyhwang1.bsky.social is not me or “my backup account.” Please report it. Merci beaucoup!

I threatened to take @jaredellias.bsky.social to Paynes Prairie when he was in FL this week and feed him to the gators. Having survived many gators, he was allowed to present his excellent paper, The Credit Markets Go Dark, which you should read.

It me.
My goals for winter break:
1. Finish every writing project.
2. Lose ten pounds.
3. Bake and eat all the pies.
4. Work out everyday.
5. Prep for each meeting of every class for next quarter.
6. Catch up on emails.
7. Just chill and relax ya know?

This is not at all a recipe for disappointment.

I promised Waldos and I deliver.

So lovely to see Andrew Tuch at my NTU talk, and to hang with Afra Afsharipour & Chien-Chung Lin at the night market.

Taipei is extremely popping this week, and not just with Taiwanese popcorn chicken (but also with that).

Had so much fun talking with Alex Yang of NTU today about Purpose & Nonprofit Enterprise.

It is indeed more fun to give a talk into a giant karaoke microphone. 🎤 🎤

Excited to present Purpose & Nonprofit Enterprise (coauthored with Dorothy Lund) at National Taiwan University today!

Watch this space for 2 (or more) very exciting Waldos who will be popping up in Taipei today.

I’m excited to be spending this week at National Taiwan University College of Law!

I’m teaching Contract Design and fighting off brutal jet lag with a steady drip of bubble teas.

#AcademicSky #LawSky let's get to know each other. Quote this & tell me: 1) a project you're working on, 2) an odd idea/theory you aren't working on but keep thinking about

1) borrowers choose lenders’ counsel in debt deals. Weird, right?!

2) odd family law project…but it might be happening?

It was wonderful to present a new project at the ILEP/Penn Journal of Biz Law symposium at Penn Law in honor of the great Jill Fisch.

Thanks to Amelia Miazad for this selfie. Jill said that I “look like [my] beagle” in this pic.

Beagle pic for comparison—no lie detected.

Huge pleasure to spend the day at Pitt Law, where I’ve gotten such helpful comments on my new paper, Refracted Intent (coming to submissions near you in Feb!).

Highlight: Spending time w/ @zhaoyili.bsky.social, a VAP & shiny new biz/tech scholar on the tenure-track teaching mkt this year.
