The greatness that was Tom Lehrer - sad news this evening of his death. I hope he’d approve if this was played at his funeral (and an American pontiff may approve and laugh too)

Absolutely this👇

It need not be the Pennine Way (though that’s an ambition still) but any good walk connects us to and helps us understand our environment, and benefits our mental health.

This is excellent and as good as talk as I’ve heard in a long time about leadership and developing people’s potential.
Southgate is an exceptional leader who made it to the top of his sport, but there is so much here for everyday life to listen to and reflect upon.

Trump might not know but of course Vance will be well aware of the many wars fought by European soldiers in the past 40 years. Vance will also know that the minerals deal is basically meaningless, having no chance of generating serious investment. So the objective is to end the Atlantic alliance.
NEW: JD Vance describes UK & French troops in Ukraine as “20,000 troops from some random country that hasn’t fought a war in 30 or 40 years”.

Spits in the face of UK & EU troops that died supporting the US in Iraq & Afghanistan.

So revealing. The Atlantic alliance & “special relationship” is dead.

This is really, really, really good! I strongly identify with the sentiments expressed, and the conclusion that in a world of power blocs, the UK must choose Europe And not just the bits it likes. The UK must actively embrace the whole European political project, warts and all.@roterote.bsky.social

Actually, no. This misses the point of Jesus's Parable of the Good Samaritan (Lk 10: 25-37). After Jesus tells a lawyer that you should "love your neighbor as yourself," the lawyer asks him, "And who is my neighbor?"

Auschwitz was at the end of a long process. It did not start from gas chambers.

This hatred was gradually developed by humans. From ideas, words, stereotypes & prejudice through legal exclusion, dehumanization & escalating violence... to systematic and industrial murder.

Auschwitz took time.
