After 6 yrs, I’m stepping away from my coordinator role with the @torontopublicspace.bsky.social I want to thank everyone who has been a part of this incredible journey.

Real change happens when people come together, care for one another, and refuse to give up on a city that we all share.

In this spot on column, @alexbozikovic.bsky.social cites the "To the Loo!" design competition we co-sponsored. The winning design and runners up will be featured in our next issue. It would be fantastic if they ended up featured in an actual Toronto park.

Is Toronto’s public design in the toilet?
The city’s plan to repair and replace 125 public washrooms is a rushed, one-size-fits-all approach that misses an opportunity to showcase design

Forget the puns: public toilets matter. Toronto is getting them wrong.

The city could miss a huge opportunity to boost its own design culture.

In the Star I wrote about the Toronto Public Space Committee’s public loo design competition. Winners& runners up show far better is possible here.
Shawn Micallef: It’s a basic need. So why isn’t Toronto flush with accessible, well-designed public washrooms?
The winner of a competition to design a better public washroom shows what could be done to public facilities, if the city really wanted to.

When you design a space to deter certain users by not providing seating, all season washrooms, and places of shelter and shade, you get hostile and sterile public spaces

This park just opened a few years ago to much back patting. A challenging site over a parking garage but has to be one of the highest profile landscape design fails. Walked thru on Friday and each time notice more bad details.
Toronto’s finally committed to fix the city’s worst park path

The most egregious design fail of College Park imo is what is basically a hardscape driveway from the Yonge entrance. Could have been such a well-designed plaza & yet it’s barren and there’s always cars parked in it. Toronto is so afraid of seating.

Two groups, both claiming to be local residents and businesses, have popped up in opposition for each of the Dufferin and Bathurst transit-only surface routes.

But if both groups claim to be locals, why are their names and the text on their websites almost exactly the same?
