Reith Lectures on @bbcsounds.bsky.social Cracking. Rutger Bregman. The US falling like Rome. Europe stagnating like Venice. He says the hopeful stuff will come in the second lecture. It's a strong recommend from me tho. www.bbc.co.uk/sounds/play/...

⚓✝️ I am an advocate for the Northern Province. It is a challenging and wonderful place to minister (and Jesus never said it would be easy and comfortable, right?) But also this cartoon - truth! It heads Simon Parke's article on the culture of grievance (today's Church Times)

I’ve written a piece on the curious lack of media and political interest in the issues faced by our national @britishlibrary.bsky.social. This is strange given we live in a world where ideas, knowledge and research are a long-term source of innovation and insight

The British library is in crisis: why does nobody care?
The widespread indifference to the British Library's crippling cyberattack demonstrates a perilous failure to value the knowledge infrastructure vital for national prosperity

Things I love about Yorkshire (the first of an occasional series). People actually just say "Meadow-hell" when talking of the shopping centre.

Thank you @canonrachel.bsky.social , for inviting me to speak on today's panel. No proselytising from me today:

75 years ago today, the European Convention of Human Rights, ECHR, was created. The UK played a key role in shaping it.
We should celebrate the ECHR & the vision of all who brought it to life.
We must resist regressive & cynical moves to rip us out of the convention!

⚓✝️ Clergy - what's your imaginary "other life"? This might be the one where you jack it all in and stack shelves (a common theme I think!) Or just the fantasy other life where God happened to call you to use different skills in a different place.....

I am a lover of pop music. All sorts of embarrassing nonsense. I was wondering if I had finally grown out of this as "K Pop Daemon Hunters" leaves me cold. But no - just heard Kylie's new 🎄 song. Terrible. But I'm dancing. 🤦🏼‍♀️

✝️⚓ What draws you to buy a book? These days I seem to follow the trail from book to book - picking up references in one to lead me to another. I don't remember why I bought this - it's been on the bedside table for months - but can now confirm it's brilliant and just what I needed right now.

Need to burn these sun-bent candles down before Advent. So it's like some kind of countdown to some kind of countdown .... 👀 Are these the moments that create loops in the space time continuum?
