This is wild – an AI-generated, podcast-style bit about our recent @plosbiology.org paper produced by The Sanz Science Experience.

I listened. The clip was conversational, down-to-earth, and accurate. It was easy for me to understand, but the paper is from my lab.

We have an uncorrected proof published for Bhagaban Mallik's study on Mitochondrial Complex I and how it regulates synapse function. You can find it in @plosbiology.org. I am so proud!

We have proofs! And you know what that means. Assertive editing.

A copy editor has flagged my name on an author line and wants me to spell out Carl Andrew Frank as my name instead of C. Andrew Frank.

I am irrationally irritated by this 😆

Designers Do a Double Take at the Lettering on Pope Francis’ Tombstone
Irregularly spaced letters spelling “F R A NCISC VS” have caused a stir among typography nerds who specialize in spacing and fonts. One called them “an abomination unto design.”

Arial 11. Full justify with auto-hyphenation.

Figure legends: Arial 9. And brief because nobody wants to read them.

White space, yes. Walls of text, no.

Four figures because you ran out of time? No.

20 figures because you want to impress with a mountain of data? Also, no.

I wanted to share good news (which in normal times would be neutral). One of my lab's NIH grants was renewed for year 2 (March 1).

That means that funding is not completely frozen. And it means there are people in Bethesda who believe in the mission of the NIH and research. And I thank them.

Hey Elon fans — your hero and his CEO are now trivializing the Holocaust with puns.

Some were curious or unsure about “the context” of his salute. Well…amidst all that talk he is adding his own context.

Folks who celebrated a CEO’s murder — and who now seem to be lionizing the killer as a combo hero/sex symbol — have bizarre moral compasses.

You can be dismayed by insurance practices AND oppose vigilante violence.

Oh, that anti-corporate hero? Undone by his visits to Starbucks and McDonald’s.

We should all be fine with President Joe Biden's blanket pardon of Hunter Biden. After all, this is what the voters said they wanted in 2020, and a POTUS's pardon power is absolute.

That's how this works, right? I, for one, am glad that we can all play by the same rules.
