Took me long enough to finished writing this for @casualhorrorpod.com, but I watched @realgdt.bsky.social's Frankenstein and I really liked it. We were even lucky enough to have a theater that was only 45 minutes away doing a showing. Just fantastic, imo

Frankenstein: A New Life Rises — Casual Obsession
Guillermo del Toro’s gothic sensibilities are allowed to come out in full swing for this Frankenstein adaptation that shows an understanding of the source, and a willingness to adjust certain elements...

Broke and watched 2 more episodes tonight. I'm gonna be beat tomorrow, but it's worth it
Watching the first two episodes of Twin Peaks: The Return felt like reconnecting with lost family, wtf

What I think is really interesting here is Craig's Bond was already a soft franchise reboot. Sure, we all politely pretend that all the previous Bonds are supposed to be the same guy, but the stories Craig was given separated him from the others as cleanly as you could have asked for already.
James Bond’s death in No Time to Die is causing a nightmare for the next film. Writers are stuck because Bond “was blown to pieces.”

Anthony Horowitz, author of three 007 novels, says:

“You can't have him wake up in shower and saying it was all a dream."

Picked up a bunch of stuff for the Barns&Noble Criterion sale, and I couldn't be more excited. Of these I've only seen Mulholland Drive, and I'm really excited to see the rest of them in ways I can't convey.

Somehow I had never seen a Wes Anderson film before this year. Ended up starting with The Brand Budapest Hotel, absolutely blew me away.
What is the best movie not from this year that you’ve seen this year? Bonus points if you say why

Watching 2005 House Of Wax for @casualhorrorpod.com's next episode (second time this year, ugh) and I have some takeaways:
1. I hate Jared Padalecki
2. Padalecki's character is the worst boyfriend in horror that's not a villain
3. I hate Jared Padalecki

What's up people, got to meet the guys who made this one while at Eerie Horror Fest and needed to share this one with the world. Check it out on @casualhorrorpod.com, and more importantly check out the movie if you get a chance. Just a blast front to back.

Hell Van (2022) — Casual Obsession
Delarosa has given us an wonderfully bloody indie horror film with a clear love of Evil Dead 2, and the practical effects that make us all look back on the ’80s with such fondness.

Hard to not feel delusionally hopeful this morning after the definitive blue sweep in so much of Pennsylvania, but especially where I live.

We dumped the loser mayor for somebody that actually seems competent and active, and the MAGA County executive is out on his lawsuit ridden ass.

For the sake of my spouse's wellbeing, I'm gonna have to ask all TikTok film reviewers to actually learn how to pronounce "Guillermo del Toro" before talking about the new Frankenstein. I've now heard "Grelmo" and "Goom-yero", which is just embarrassing on a lot of levels.

Decided to watch Gravity Falls this morning and holy shit, it's crazy to watch this again for the first time post Twin Peaks

Happy Halloween, it's time to return to the church of the great wheel and spin it up for some movies

Saw GDT's Frankenstein and I'm still buzzing thinking about it. Insane that we had to drive almost 50 minutes to find a theater showing it, I really hope I'll get my hands on this in physical at some point

A ★★★★½ review of Frankenstein (2025)
I'll never be mad at GDT for his moments of slightly mid CG, because you can tell that all the budget that could have made the CG maybe 10% better went into making the gorgeous sets and other practica...

Made a whole list of "hey man, you wanna try and get into horror movies?" for my friend @borntorule.bsky.social as the most recent step in my attempt to sell his soul. Check it out, might expand this in the future to show off some other big genres/break up the "supernatural" block

Hey buddy, let me sell you on horror
A list curated for my buddy Dan, the man who hates horror movies and has (thanks to me) watched Hellraiser (a good time) and all three Human Centipede movies (a bad time). Rather than jumping in on a ...

I feel like a lot of us grew up morons. I don’t know anything about this guys tattoos but it is definitely something to at least talk about because we all know so many stupid guys who were somehow able to get through life without accidentally getting a Nazi tattoo

Sometimes being the movie guy at work sucks, like in January when I was asked what the best movie I watched all year was and I went blank. Other times it rocks cause one of the guys always comes to me to get a vibe check on any new horror movie that comes out

Wrote a review for @casualhorrorpod.com on Black Phone 2! I am aware that some of this reads like I'm a guy who hates fun, but I can't stress enough that I did, in fact, like this movie.

Black Phone 2 Review — Casual Obsession
Scott Derrickson returns with a sequel that, for better or worse, cements this as “A Nightmare On Elm Street, but serious.”

Incredibly evil gambling ad (all of them, really) just promised the ability to bet on anything and their on screen example was "Recession this year?"

Fucked up, in a just world everyone who makes these ads will get tried for their crimes of contributing to the horrific apathy of humanity

Hot pot restaurant was just playing Fuck You by Ceelo Green really loud and fully uncensored, a true treat

Also, like... stop telling your movie friends to watch bad movies because they're "really fun if you're drunk/high." I don't want to burn out on movies that suck ass, and when that's your whole selling point you gotta get why I'm not into that.
It's always interesting to me when people say something like "I'm gonna watch every movie ever made!" they start with the shit ass garbage from the Walmart dollar bin and depths of free streaming. You know that there's more good movies than you can ever watch out there, right?
