Environmental protections will remain politicised under new legislation, which allows the Environment Minister to approve project applications in the national interest. Question is, why is environmental protection not in the national interest?

When is protection of the environment not in the national interest?
Droughts and flooding rains have been part of Australia's story for time immemorial. They might now even be legislated in the national interest!

I think we need a social media
channel dedicated to discussing everywhere except the US. For non-US types, the American focus is a bit eye glazing.

Love China’s immediate response to Trump’s climate denial. The US is leaving a vacuum for China to step in and assume global leadership by taking the scientific and moral high ground on multiple issues. America First looking more like a lone runner in a race no one else wants to compete in.

Australia's target climate range illustrates the lack of conviction associated with appealing to the so-called 'sensible centre' of voters.

It pleases no one when politicians opt for the sensible centre
Australia's emissions target of 62-70% below 2005 levels is merely a defensible political solution that satisfies nobody

Israel attacked Iran. The US escalated against its own intelligence advice. And Iran now asked to stand down and talk. And the Aussie government backs it all in. We truly are the bitch for Israel and the US.

I wonder whether some of the language used in calling for urgent action on climate is doomed to fail. Do people see climate change as an emergency or crisis?
open.substack.com/pub/geoffbro...
Is language getting in the way of progress on climate?
Advocacy is emotional and affects the language used to prosecute the debate. But is choice of words alienating those needing to be converted?

The link between our own health and that of the planet is irrefutable. We are part of its biodiversity, not apart from it.
Today, we are asking for your support to allow us to continue our vital work advocating for climate action to protect health.
