A really poignant reflection on the potentialities, precarities, slow progress (or lack thereof), and pigeonholing that comes with Indigenous representation in U.S. pop culture by a unique talent who was tragically murdered earlier this week in a senseless hate crime. Rest in power, Jonathan Joss. 💔

It was an honor to chair and coordinate this #SCMS25 panel and present alongside brilliant scholars whose work is so vital for considering how we make use of media in moments of monumental challenge. Very thankful for this community that encourages reading media contextually & closely.
Sensational #SCMS25 panel just now on “Envisioning Elsewheres and Elsewhens” feat @brinnigentry.bsky.social @caetlin.bsky.social Laurie Oullette and Isabel Ortiz. Proof, if anybody still needs it, that analysis by media scholars is essential for understanding today’s mediascape.
