What small-minded nasty little people the Tory party are now. As if improving workers’ rights means just cost and damage to the economy. What if treating people better, rebalancing the mismatch in power improves productivity and retention? In the end, being decent costs far less than being an arse.

Can only concur that @chrisgrey.bsky.social has been consistently outstanding - if you only buy one credit book buy his etc, by these fortnightly columns are essential
Reading @chrisgrey.bsky.social 's blog today, it is important to address the quality of the work overall.

When the history of Brexit is written in 50 years' time, I have no doubt that this will be one of the must widely used sources

Consider this. It has been weekly/fortnightly since '16

If I was the BBC Deputy Economics editor I would probably read the actual text of what was agreed instead of just uncritically repeating unsourced infographics from the White House twitter account.

The photos of Starmer greeting Zelenskyy in Downing Street go beyond partisan politics.
They're a reflection of our decency and the respect Zelenskyy enjoys in this country.

So Starmer is doing a deal with the EU to align with food standards, climate targets and accepting ECJ rulings.

He has also agreed to a scheme for 18 - 30 year olds to be able to go live and work in EU countries.

I keep telling you, this is how it will happen.

Trust in the process

What fairy story is this?
Reeves is tangentially related to Labour's Europe problem in exactly the same manner as the rest of the party.
Nothing significant can change without going back to the electorate.
The exceptionalism is slowly being beaten out of us.

New post: Mediamacro melodrama
mainlymacro.blogspot.com/2025/01/medi...
Just a week ago the UK media was speculating that Reeves was about to be sacked and who might replace her, all because of largely global movements in interest rates. How and why did the media get things so wrong?
Mediamacro melodrama
The UK macroeconomy was one of the big stories of the previous two weeks, so you might think this blog post should have covered it earlier...

In his WASPI Women piece on the 6 O'clock news, just heard Chris Mason describe the victims of Post Office Horizon and the Infected Blood Scandal as "winners". He should issue a grovelling apology then resign.

The Tory press has such a vested interest in peddling the myth that the Tories are fiscally responsible and that Labour hasn’t got a clue.
If Labour had left govt debt, the economy and public services in the state the Tories left them in, the howls of outrage would have been deafening and endless.
