The next bridge in the series on Frankfurt takes us to this bridge. From my perspective, the bridge serves as a perfect spot for a photo opportunity taken in the day time as well as night. Slide the photos above to see the difference. 🙂 The bridge we are presenting is the oldest known structure in the city, the Alte Brücke.

High Viaduct in Sichuan, China Collapses
Source: Highest Bridges.com Motorway Bridge Collapses due to Landslide, months after its opening. No Casualties SICHUAN, CHINA- Mother nature and potential design flaws contributed to a collapse of one of the highest motorway viaducts in southwestern China early Tuesday morning. The Hongqui Viaduct was a 760-meter long box girder viaduct that spanned a reservoir carrying the Sichuan-Tibet Highway near Mearkang. The viaduct was completed earlier this year by the Sichuan Road and Bridge Group, a consortium of bridge builders and construction firms responsible for the bridge and the road that was supposed to provide quicker and safer passage to the Tibetian Plateau.

Ponte de Maria Pia. Photo taken by Joseolgon, Public domain, via Wikimedia Commons As a follow-up to yesterday's guest post on the Dom Luis I Bridge, we have the rest of the bridges one has to see while visiting the second largest city in Portugal. Porto has over 252,000 inhabitants, but its metro area has 1.8 million. It's located in the northern part of the country, where the Duoro RIver empties into the Atlantic Ocean, yet the river is known for its steep cliffs, which cuts the historic city into two, with buildings being located both at the bottom and at the top of the cliffs.

Also Mystery Bridge Nr. 249 Before we get to the last three bridges along the Main River, I would like to show you this bridge one could find. And it has a stark connection with another city in the eastern part of Germany, Leipzig. Frankfurt and Leipzig share some common values, aside from the fact that both host an annual book fair.

When looking at the photo of this next bridge being featured, one has to ask: why this boring, modern, bland structure when it should be left out altogether. It is true that the bridge is really boring and that it should have been left out. However, after doing the research on its history, I realized that I would be doing injustice had I done just that.

Esdraelon Stone Bridge Source: Glassville CA Website As I was finding research on the fall of one of the covered bridges in New Brunswick, I happened to find a bridge that is perhaps one of the rarest of its kind. Rare not just because of its design and material used for construction, but rare because it is located in the middle of nowhere right in the middle of the Canadian province.

Frankfurt officially has two full-blown pedestrian bridges spanning the River Main: The Old Iron Bridge (Eisernsteg) and this one, the Hohlbeinsteg. Built in 1990, the pedestrian bridge is the only known suspension bridge to exist in the metropolis of 700,000 people. It's one of only a handful of bridges that has an A-frame tower. The idea of a 210 meter long, 6 meter wide structure came from…

Italian Court Stops Messina Suspension Bridge Project
Humber Bridge in England- Messina Suspension Bridge's motif. Photo by Nikolaos Dimou on Pexels.com ROME/SICILY- The Italian government under Giorgio Meloni suffered a significant setback on Wednesday regarding the Messina Suspension Bridge project. The Italian Court of Auditors rejected the proposal to construct the world's longest suspension bridge that would connect the island of Sicily with the Italian Mainland. The decision sparked outrage by Meloni and others, who claimed that the ruling was an example of governmental overreach.

BHC Pic of the Week Series: The Bridges of Frankfurt, Germany- The Railway Bridges Built by MAN
The next two bridges on the tour are almost completely identical. Identical because of their history; identical because of the truss design and the fact that they were built by the same bridge building company. And identical as they serve rail traffic between Frankfurt Central Station (D: Frankfurt Hbf.) and Frankfurt Airport (D: Frankfurt Flughafen Fernbahnhof). The difference is that the days of one of them may be numbered unless there are efforts to repurpose them just like what is being planned with the…
