"Yet once you've come to be part of this particular patch, you'll never love another. Like loving a woman with a broken nose, you may well find lovelier lovelies. But never a lovely so real."

As the year ends we've increased the footprint of indie presses from around the country. As times change it's important to support these smaller publishers who are putting out fascinating books. It's not surprising that so many indie pubs are putting out award winners. #smallpress #indiepublishers

We have made the difficult decision NOT to donate to Trump's White House ballroom. Unlike PiranhaCo, we have morals. I wonder how much money made selling books in the time it took to write this post. Shop local. It's always worth it.

Bookies starts FAIR Fund
As owner of Bookie’s New and Used Books, Keith Lewis has seen firsthand the disappointment of children when they walk away from their school’s book fair empty-handed.

So psyched to once again sponsor and bring a fantastic selection of books to the Beverly/Morgan Park #juneteenth family festival! It’s more important than ever this year.

We held a bookmark contest, and these were the four winners. I had them printed locally. They came out wonderful with the store information on the back and credit to the artists. They also won Bookie’s gift cards!

Thanks Trump. The school at which we are CURRENTLY running a book fair just lost the Title I funding to put books into the hands of kids literally in the middle of the book fair. The school lost money. The store lost money. But hey. Rich people got richer.

This is the late Tuskegee Airman John (Jack) Lyle, a friend to the store for many years. He was a humble man who resisted the term “hero” and loved sailing, which he did into his late 90s. He signed books at one of our most successful events. He won’t be erased. #tuskegeeairmen #dei #blackhistory

With these racists deleting everything about black people from history, I suppose we’ll have to duodecuple down and declare every month as black history month. These people have lost their minds. We will always carry books by and about people of color. Diversity to the end, whenever that will be.

One of our favorite events to host! Kids can come to the store and read to the puppies from SitStayRead. So cute.

To the degree you can afford it, please continue to support your local bookstores and other independent local retailers that are struggling to survive. We need to invest more in our communities, not less, as the new administration seeks to undermine us and hand the reins over to billionaires.

Do you have a “Silent Book Club” near you? We have a couple, and they’re wonderful. Great for ADHD. If there’s not one near you, start one! #silentbookclub #bookclubs #adhd

Better yet, starve the billionaires. We’re about to start paying even more of their share. Shop locally this holiday season. Shop local beyond the holiday season. We’re trying to feed ourselves and our families and make neighborhoods nicer!!!
