Ron Washington did this, but he is 73. And he has been in baseball longer than most of the current Angels have been on Earth. Kurt Suzuki played with or against at least half the dudes on the Angels roster and holy moly it seems disrespectful IMO
I'm personally not a big fan of the Kurt Suzuki hire. But honestly, on my list of things to dislike about it, I really didn't like him calling the players "kids" for that whole press conference. It sets a tone that they aren't, and won't be, ready to compete next season.

The audio on this Kurt Suzuki press conference is buns. But signing a new manager to a 1 year deal when you have had as much managerial turnover as the Angels recently is fucking nuts and a real indicator that Arte prob didn't want it and there will most likely also be a new GM/manager next winter.

I'm fine with Pujols interviewing for manager. But he is already committed to running the DR team at the WBC in 5 months. How is a first year manager supposed to leave his brand new squad in the middle of spring training? And it would be hard for him to bail on managing for his country.

Moving on from Montgomery is a good start here. I don’t think it was coincidence that the season went in the tank when he took over for Ron.
And I do like Ron. But he needs to focus on his health.
