Hive mind! A friend has had a catastrophic PC failure. I've been asked to provide a replacement, but the only ones I have available are fairly old and won't run Win11. I'm tempted to put Linux on it - one of those that looks and acts similarly to Windows. What distribution would you recommend?

GameFAQs guides are STILL the best source for walkthroughs of older games, and if you find one with detailed ASCII art at the top? You're in good hands.
Hey, happy 30th birthday GameFAQs! Launched on November 5th, 1995!

The earliest scrape I can find on Wayback is December 1996, but I doubt the site changed much. But yes, here it is in its earliest days as the Video Game FAQ Archive!

It is already bonkers to have untrained members of the public handling explosives, but WHY THE FUCK are they so loud that they rattle the fucking windows????

Right-wing 'conservative' shitheads have spent *decades* trying to reduce women to nothing more than a set of reproductive organs on legs.
Now people who have the gall to call themselves 'feminist' are also reducing women to just reproductive organs on legs.
Boils my piss.

One of the reasons I was let go from my previous job was said to be too many typos in my submitted copy.
And yet, this. In a supposedly prestigious mainstream paper.

I think one of the saddest things about being a millennial is remembering a time when technology was advancing in a way that made life better and easier and more exciting instead of actively, intentionally worse

Sprucing up the @insertcoin.bsky.social Dreamcast bag with a magic sponge and some cleaner ready for SonicCon on Saturday.
Probably the last hurrah for this bag, it has served faithfully for many years and is looking very battered now

HIVE MIND -
I’m touring my one man version of A Christmas Carol this December; got a bunch of dates in BUT I’ve got an annoying gap: 14th - 17th.
Been waiting to hear from some venues but can’t wait any longer.
I donate 50% of my cut to local charities
Any small (<100 seat)f venues interested?

Jodie was robbed and Chibnall is a hack. I will die on this hill
I think that both Jodie Whittaker and Ncuti Gatwa have been fantastic actors who have expanded the idea of who the Doctor can be. I also think that both have been hobbled by very subpar scripts and writing.

And if a North West conurbation had the investment in public transport that London did, it would probably have more people in it 🤔
Always fascinating watching people underestimate the size of London vs other UK ciries.

On an average weekday, more journeys are made on JUST the Elizabeth line than the ENTIRE population of Liverpool.

If the Tube was a city, its average daily passengers would make it the 2nd largest in the UK.

UK gov have still not managed to answer any questions about how to stop someone from stealing your entire identity by nicking your phone if 'Digital ID' goes ahead.

USA: Of course, in this post-"Sopranos" world, we should acknowledge that "Babylon 5" (1994) was the first SF show to address serious political themes.

UK: Episode one of #Blakes7 (1978) has the police-state frame Blake as a paedophile to avoid making him a martyr. We remember this series as silly.
