Microsoft version of the encyclopedia, Encarta, was a miracle. And every year it was better and more curated and richer in multimedia and details.
And I feel so sad you'll never experience what this felt like. You were living the golden age. All of humanity would have wisdom unlocked shortly.

Have been thinking about AR and wearables with the Apple news this week. I have a Pixel watch. I like it. But it's more of a fun toy than a must have. Mostly because to get the information I need, I still need to move a body part and look at a screen

I value the amount of time I spent training as a competitive athlete in my younger years. It's what largely enabled my sense of optimism and resilience. This is me circa 2010

This is why I'm so glad I started my working life in biopharma, where the drug development failure rate is ~90%. It instilled in me the attitude of "you need to be doing things, you need to be doing them now, and you need to be doing them carefully"
There's quite a bit of evidence that people in the past were more risk tolerant than we are today:
I wonder what the feeling of that was! Were they just afraid of death but acted despite that fear? Or did it actually register less? Some combination or other thing?
