Today is World Aquatic animal day! Join us in celebrating our amazing winged wonders of the sea. At BirdLife South Africa and the Mouse-Free Marion project, we have programmes that aim to conserve and protect these precious species including albatrosses and African Penguins.

As part of the Environmental Education and Awareness project, Nandi Thobela, Zoleka Mkhize, and Thandulwazi Ndaba travelled to Hluhluwe in northern KZN to conduct school engagements at Bangizwe Primary School and Ntulabakayise Secondary School.

Have you heard about the KBA programme? In 2024, South Africa launched a new Key Biodiversity Areas (KBA) Network, a significant milestone after years of dedicated work by the South African National Botanical Institute and partner organisations such as BirdLife South Africa.

Today is Penguin Awareness Day, a day to highlight the urgent need to protect our beloved penguins. 🐧💙 Let’s shine a spotlight on the African Penguin, a species on the brink of extinction with less than 2% of the population remaining today.😢
