We are not asking for bicycle dominance or even for a complete end to car dominance.

We are just asking for a slight diminishing of total car dominance in favor of having a choice.

People who want to walk, ride bikes, or take public transit should be able to.

It would benefit everyone!

I just picked up this HEAVY bookcase from someone on a Craigslist ad. The seller was so blown away by the cargo bike that they jumped on their bike and rode with me for a few blocks to see how it was possible to move such a load without a pickup truck. #OneLessTruck #CargoBikes #BikesAreBetter

In the 4.5-mile bike ride to pick up my kids from school, I found the following in painted bike lanes: at least 6 trash bins, a parked car, a parked firefighter truck (likely lunch break), and a parked city maintenance vehicle. This is unacceptable, and another reason why paint is not infrastructure

Bike for your quality of life not your quantify of life!
Yes, you shouldn't have to 'Bike Like Your Life is in Danger', should be able to 'Bike for Your Quality of Life'.

If the bike lane requires you to be at "peak human" performance to survive, it's a failed design.

As a member of the #SlowCommuteClub I'm a fan of taking it slow.

Bicycling doesn't have to mean racing and speed, it can mean so much more!

The Art of Taking It Slow
Contemporary cycling is all about spandex and personal bests. The bicycle designer Grant Petersen has amassed an ardent following by urging people to get comfortable bikes, and go easy.

Taking the car to go get groceries today simply because I know there will be multiple instances where bike infrastructure is not clear of mounded snow where it meets the clean and clear streets for cars. A city gets the traffic they design and maintain for.

The bikes are a swarm of precision tools. They don't block lanes, they don't kill, and they don't destroy roads.

It’s about fitting the vehicle to the environment, aka, the right tool for the job.

Car companies keeps pushing vehicles that are bigger and biggerbut we usually visualize this as more length & height.
But width?
Fact is vehicles have been wider too.
This is called "carspreading."
A study measured vehicles getting 0.5 cm wider every year since 2010.
Roads didn't get any wider tho.
Cars are getting bigger. This is a problem for us and for the planet
Sport utility vehicles and other larger cars are becoming more and more common, and this is dangerous for our health in many ways. But we have ways to counter "carspreading", says Anthony Laverty

Little Dutch kids on their bicycles, lol. You see them everywhere, slowly cycling to whatever appointments they have. Serious road users just doing their thing. Super cute! Lol

The entrance to the 3-storey bike parking garage at Utrecht Central holding 12,500 bicycles. It’s free for the first 24 hours, linked to the station, and used by tens of thousands every day. This is what happens when a country treats bikes as real transport infrastructure, not an afterthought.

It really is just simple geometry.

You cannot build a functional city if everyone brings a 2-ton living room on wheels with them.

Meanwhile in Capelle a/d Ijsel where my aunt and uncle live, they have plans to pedestrianize the whole neighborhood (i.e., cars park at the outskirts) so everyone can safely run around everywhere within the neighborhood. From their house, it’s an 8 minute walk to a train station and grocery store.

In the Netherlands it is absolutely normal for roads to wind around the outskirts of neighborhoods and contain large cement planters as dividers, huge speed bumps, and close enough cement walls that speeding is impractical. This makes driving slow. So biking, walking, or taking transit is faster!
