In 1987 I sat through an hour long lecture in my Modern US History course parsing several different complicated interpretations of why the 1929 crash happened. Future historians will be like "Donald Trump was an ignorant fool who imposed pointless tariffs that crashed the global economy. The end."
This all points to confidence in US treasury bonds rapidly degrading, and the consequences of that go well beyond a simple recession. The US bond market imploding would make 2008 look like child's play.
For the layman, US treasury bonds have long been the safest of safe investments, meaning when the market tanks, people start buying bonds. In these cases, the 10-year yield goes down because bonds are being bought vs sold.
If the yield goes up as the markets goes down, that is bad. Very bad.

Received a letter from POTUS today purporting to remove me as Commissioner and Chair of the FEC. There's a legal way to replace FEC commissioners-this isn't it. I've been so fortunate to serve the American people and stir up some good trouble along the way. That's not changing anytime soon.

As someone who has been online in one way or another for over 35 yrs, I look on TikTok the way elves look upon the death of a human. Perhaps sad at its passing, but aware it will soon be replaced. I know of a graveyard full of dead platforms, with names no one speaks aloud anymore, and it is there.
