Climate policy, Berkeley/Oakland politics.
I’m running for office again! This time, I’m running for a seat in the California Democratic Party.

This election is happening right now. In order to vote, you need to request a ballot before January 31st - link in bio.

In addition to enforcing antitrust laws to give small businesses a level playing field, we need good industrial & trade policy - including tariffs - to counter China's monopolistic approach in strategic manufacturing industries.

It's also climate policy: America can produce with fewer emissions.

Great thread on why small grocery stores disappeared and food deserts became a problem. Federal antitrust law seems key to enabling small retailers to compete with larger corporations, which is a big missing piece for improving & expanding walkable neighborhoods.
1. The conventional explanation for food deserts—that these places are too poor or too rural to generate enough spending on groceries, or too Black to overcome racist corporate redlining — fail to grapple with a key fact: food deserts didn’t used to exist. My new piece in The Atlantic.
The Mystery of Food Deserts
They didn’t materialize around the country for no reason. Something happened.

If we want better fashion culture in the US, we have to lower the cost of housing and commercial real estate, support independent craftspeople, build denser neighborhoods, improve walkability, and get rid of overly restrictive zoning laws. Let kook culture thrive.

Thrilled to congratulate mayor-elect @adenaishii.bsky.social and look forward to working with her on implementing Measure FF!
Sophie Hahn just called Adena Ishii and conceded the race. Mayor Ishii, super urbanist candidate and outsider, is now mayor of Berkeley.
