Architectural historian (women’s spaces in the long 19th century), PhD candidate (Courtauld), knitter, politically progressive and culturally effusive. Was a lawyer back in the day. US—>UK, based in Bath (& sometimes London). I love a good fountain pen.

Sitting next to two teenage girls on the train to London this morning, one is reading The Penelopiad and the other Never Let Me Go. My heart is full.

Who has two thumbs and is giving a lecture on the Edith Farnsworth House and Mies van der Rohe today?

THIS GIRL.

But you know that when the truth is told

That you can get what you want or you can just get old

You're gonna kick off before you even get halfway through, ooh

When will you realize Vienna waits for you?

So excited for tomorrow’s field trip to the V&A Storehouse East! Can’t wait to talk about curation, FLW, and social housing with my students.

As a girl who grew up in PGH going to Kaufmann’s (the REAL one downtown, not just at the mall), who now studies & teaches arch. history, this is a MOMENT.

Couldn’t possibly say it any better myself.
Trump's style will forever be "what if Uday Hussein ran a Ramada Inn," as @kenwhite.bsky.social described it, a cluttered mess of generic tacky designs covered in gold leaf, simultaneously piggish and cheap.
we are witnessing a genuine decline in the taste of american elites

You don’t have to be an historic preservationist or architectural historian to be livid about this, but it certainly helps.
If the National Guard is really in D.C. to protect federal
property, they should probably have been at 1600 Pennsylvania Ave. two days ago

I’m finally able to articulate why I love teaching BA students so much: in that liminal university space they are both (not “neither”) children AND adults, and hold all of the best qualities of each in varying measure as they progress. They are a true joy.

Yeah, it’s a swing and a miss with this job recommendation for me, LinkedIn.

Managed to get an upgrade to 1st class on GWR (thx @seatfrog.bsky.social!) and MY WORD it’s like a British Richard Yates novel in this carriage. The drama!! The sidelong glances!! The multiple bottles of wine!! Oh, and free snacks.

Worth every pence.

Couldn’t watch the news on BBC all day bc it was all Kemi, all the time. Finally turned it on and now it’s Trump spouting insane lies about “Antifa”.

Netflix it is.

Why do American accents so successfully break through my noise cancellation on the train? Speaking volume is part of it (!), but it is maddening.

*I’m American btw

The bravery of this woman—of all of the witnesses, but her in particular—is what I aspire to.

Missing you tonight, Chicago. ❤️
This video of Chicagoans intervening to save a man from being abducted off the streets by ICE is making the rounds on Instagram.

Community action works.

So did I miss the rapture? Or is it happening in the evening US time? I’d just like to know so I can feed the cat extra, just in case.

“The president, almost yelling at times, exhorted women not to take Tylenol during pregnancy, telling them to “tough it out” through pain and fevers…”

There’s not enough time in the day to unpack everything that’s wrong and abhorrent here.

Watching King and Conqueror, and while I enjoy it generally, I’m pretty salty about how they did Judith of Flanders dirty. I understand artistic license but really?

Charlie Kirk spent his life‘s work and all of his energy and time targeting out-groups while arguing for a world in which gun massacres would be easy to enact, plentiful, and inevitable, and he became famous and wealthy doing it, and we’re now not supposed to mention that because it’s not polite.

I am so stressed that I am vibrating, and the only thing that can soothe me is an as-yet-unwatched period drama with multiple seasons.
