Excellent points made here the LibDem leader - plus some interesting responses. Worth a good look.
Robbie Gibb was appointed to the BBC Board by Boris Johnson, was an editorial advisor for GB News, and worked as Theresa May's Director of Comms.

He is not impartial or neutral. The government should remove him from the Board immediately to protect the BBC's independence.

I think I do understand it but none of it reflects well on them.
They are terrified. Terrified of the right wing media, terrified of Farage and most of all, terrified of Trump.
Everyone in this govt will look back in 20 years and regret their cowardice. But that's how cowardice works isn't it?
I do not understand the Labour government's reticence over defending the BBC and social media regulation. Their long-term survival basically depends on it. Their cowardice in the face of it may be the single thing they are most remembered for.

Interesting and valuable thread on the BBC and one officer of the Corporation in particular.
Should Gibb be sacked? yes, obviously. He's an abomination of basic journalistic standards. His GB News channel spreads conspiracy theory & disinformation. His Jewish Chronicle newspaper spreads invented stories. He is plainly trying to undermine the BBC so it's as bad as everything else he touches.

🎯 Davey is spot on. "We can have criticism of the BBC, but within that, we need to recognise how valuable an institution it is [and how] precious to our country. And that's one of the reasons why people like President Trump and Nigel Farage, want to undermine the BBC." 👏🏽~AA

Reform says Kent CC is their "shop window", where the country can see what a Farage gov't would be like.

Well... chaos, suspensions, defections, paralysis, zero "DOGE" savings, tax rises, and a leader making mad-dictator speeches, sounds about right. ~AA

If there is a national institution that reflects, represents, and encompasses the shared social and cultural values of the UK, it is not the royal family, it is the BBC.

Ultimately that's why the Tories hate it, because it is a bulwark against selfish individualism.

There were 115 prisoners mistakenly released in the final year of the last Conservative Government alone.

Interesting that it only becomes a major national scandal the second these releases can be blamed on a Labour government

Helen Whateley being as hypocritical as ever on Politics Live, complaining that Labour keep blaming Tories for things after being in office for 16 months, forgetting that the Tories themselves were still blaming Labour in early 2024 for scenarios which took place in 2010.

Oh dear, David Lammy turning into Michael Howard in the 'not answering the question that was asked' stakes. He must be thankful that the stand-in for LOTO only has 6 questions unlike Paxman who was able to get well into double figures.

Definitely not terrifying, or damaging to the atmosphere and the air we breath, at all.

If you're not deeply disturbed by this you really aren't paying attention.

A long-deranged and deeply depraved man with a pronouncedly and acceleratingly deteriorating mind announces that he intends to play with the large arsenal of nuclear weapons he controls.

But it's okay, because he's not seeking a third term.

Given the party's refusal to act on Pochin's brazen racism, it should be as socially unacceptable to vote for Reform as it was in the early 2000s to vote for the BNP.

And we should be prepared to say this to people's faces.

Sad news. Sincere condolences to the family.
What a great lady - I loved watching the canal journeys programmes she did with hubby, Timothy West.
Also, for all she was rightly lauded for Fawlty Towers, she was just splendid in After Henry, playing a very different character.
RIP to the wonderful Prunella Scales, beautifully pictured here in February 1968.

Off the top of my head, there have been four egregious examples of weapons grade public racism in the last couple of weeks - Jenrick; the Express hack; Captain Concrete & the Reform woman. The way they are treated by employers, punters & wider media, will directly influence how much more we see.
