We did it, Zo.
Zohran Mamdani wins!

He ran on an unabashedly pro-transgender platform, stood up for the most vulnerable, as so many have pushed for the Democratic Party to abandon trans people in order to win.

Major win for trans New Yorkers - he has vowed for intense resistance to anti-trans Trump policies.

Do you remember a politician talking about trans people before 2016?

I don’t.

I do remember my brother texting me excited that a President said “LGBT” in his State of the Union address. It was Obama’s last, in 2016.

How many non-binary people have to beat out the men in their category before we get rid of gendered categories?

If you think boycotts don’t work look at just how quickly companies and institutions caved on DEI policies when they were threatened to lose federal funding.

People are making fun of Democrats with their little action paddles, but they’re doing what they’ve always done. They’re politicians, pandering to their fan base. Their fan base happens to be the people who wore the blue bracelets when Trump won the election.

If you feel like we’ve done all there is to do with representation and diversity in theater, remember that the first Black woman to hold the principal contract of Elphaba in Wicked on Broadway starts to run tonight, in 2025. The show opened on 2003.

If you’re still wondering why the people in power are so adamant about policing trans identities, it’s because our existence is a reminder that you can think for yourself and live a life that works best for you and that disrupts the status quo they benefit from maintaining.

Do you ever think about how the stereotype of non-binary people being baristas is actually a commentary on how difficult the workforce is for non-binary people?

In case you were wondering how my brain works, I watched the Superbowl constantly thinking that “offensive line” sounds like they’re describing a Fox News soundbite.

Remember that illegal does not always mean morally bad.

What the government forbids is not always what you might consider wrong.

You are allowed to build your own morals and values outside of the system.

It’s once again feeling impossible to keep up with the news and the emotions with this administration.
They are trying to divide our attention and exhaust us. The more we focus on community and each other, the better off we’re going to be. Invest your energies in each other. It will be worthwhile.

One of my favorite things about being 5’ 11¾” is that if a man’s dating profile says that he’s 6 foot, I’m always taller than him.

If you ever wondered why we call marginalized communities marginalized, just consider how many people you hear talking about trans identities in the media these days compared to how many trans people you’re hearing from in those same spaces.

If I learned anything from my time going by they/them pronouns, it’s that people can just say something “doesn’t sound right” and that means it’s not supposed to exist.

“President Trump” just doesn’t sound right…
