As someone who lives with multiple chronic illnesses, I feel this so deeply.
It’s hard to conceive of yourself as your body when your body suffers in ways you can’t even understand. It’s such an intimate betrayal. Pain without harm is alienating. How can my “self” include my body when my body is so cruel? Who is this torturer who lives in my bones?
