I realised I never properly introduced myself since joining Bluesky! So hi 👋 I'm a self-taught artist with a particular interest in space art, and I mainly use soft pastels and acrylics. I live in Manchester (UK), I'm a tax adviser by day, and I have a little dog called Conrad ✨

I had so much fun leading a space art workshop at Redditch Library on Saturday! It was part of Redditch Astronomical Society's family day. I did a Q&A on illustrating An Unlikely Astronaut, and scifi author Chris Beckett also did a really interesting talk. Here are some of my favourite pics 😊✨

I'm really excited to join Redditch Astronomical Society's family day at Redditch Library on Saturday 30th August. I'll be doing a Q&A about illustrating An Unlikely Astronaut plus hosting a space art workshop for kids 👩‍🚀🎨✨
A poster for the event on 30th August saying that it's free and open to children and adults. Q&A takes place at 11am followed by the space art workshop between 12 noon and 4pm. Plus Chris Beckett, author of the Dark Eden trilogy will be doing a talk at 2pm which requires prebooked tickets

Here are some of my better images of "Marsrise" -- right after the end of the #MarsOccultation.

Happy to say I found capture settings that simultaneously worked for both Mars and Moon. No "cheating" and stacking them separately and then copy/pasting.

Astronomy friends, what night sky events are you looking forward to in 2025? 🔭

In 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿 we've got 2 lovely total lunar eclipses (14 Mar & 7 Sept) and a 40% partial solar eclipse (29 Mar).
I'm also super excited about Saturn temporarily losing it's rings in March 🤓

Day 24 of #ArtAdventCalendar! Thanks so much for all the likes, shares and follows, it really means a lot to me ☺️ This is the cover artwork that I did in soft pastels for #AnUnlikelyAstronaut, which was such an amazing project to be part of ✨
The Space Shuttle launching into space. It is speeding towards us, with the orange glowing exhaust trailing behind back towards Earth. The curve of Earth is at the top of the image and glows blue against the black of space. We can see into the cockpit, and a female astronaut is piloting the orbiter. In the next seat is a male astronaut.

We're nearly there! Day 23 of #ArtAdventCalendar and this is an acrylic painting I did in 2019 to commemorate 50 years since the Apollo program. There's something in there to represent every crewed mission - more details in the alt description ✨
A kaleidoscope of repeated images in concentric circles representing the crewed Apollo missions with the moon in the very centre. Groups of 3 stars around the outside represent the 3 astronauts who died during a training exercise. The command module, Saturn V rocket, and Lunar Module represent Apollo 7, 8, and 9 respectively as they were the first crewed flights of those vehicles. Apollo 10 is represented by the "Snoopy cap" , which shares its name with the command module of that mission. The footprints represent Apollo 11, and the Surveyor 3 Probe represents Apollo 12. The improvised CO2 scrubber represents Apollo 13, and the golf balls represent Apollo 14. There are hammers and feathers to represent Apollo 15. A family photo represents Apollo 16, and the orange and brown dots represent the orange soil discovered during Apollo 17. In addition to the symbolism for each mission, there is one command module for each crewed mission (12), one star for each person who journeyed to the Moon (24), and one footprint for each of the twelve men who set foot on the surface.
