Another important set of considerations!
Having practiced LA, private, Scot, Eng, in person, remote - as an NQEP I think it’s so important to follow this topic and reflect. I often think about the presumption of mainstreaming in Scotland and how that often shapes the EP role as strategic

I wrote something - kinda a rambling of various thoughts after an...interesting article in iPaper last week

TLDR - We need to extend systems thinking to our own profession. We're too small to be divided. We need diverse voice at media and policy level

Thinking holistically needs to extend to our own profession too
So, I said I would come back to this article and post shared by the DECP and therefore I probably should. You can see a paywall free version of the article here.

Important considerations about remote assessments and the impact on quality, as well as privatisation of EP work.
I always find seeing how the child interacts with the school context to be a valuable piece of information.

The traumatic experience of tribunals for EHCPs is often told from the parents' perspective - for good reasons - but looking at it from the school perspective tells us a huge amount about the disaster of the current system.

‘EHCPs aren’t just bureaucratic paperwork – without them, it becomes far harder to ensure the right help gets to the right child at the right time.'

Jane Harris, CEO of Speech and Language UK, issues a warning to DfE about scrapping education, health and care plans
Why losing EHCPs would be a disaster for speech and language support
The DfE suggestion that EHCPs may not be the ‘right vehicle’ for SEND support fails to acknowledge the scale of the challenges that children with speech and language needs experience, writes Jane Harris

This is brilliant. It has me reflecting on how, in Scotland, parents aren’t generally fined for children not attending. No praise and behaviour points, where some children feel quantifiably labelled as more ‘bad’ than ‘good’. It certainly isn’t perfect here, but is an interesting contrast!
