Franklin Delano Roosevelt was the only person to serve more than two terms as U.S. president. Roosevelt’s violation of the two-term tradition prompted Congress and the states to turn the tradition into a formal matter of constitutional law. (via @us.theconversation.com)

Evidence of public support gives lawmakers more clout with their colleagues to keep doing what they're doing. Constituent encouragement becomes influence.
