The income small bookstores get from Bookshop is SO HELPFUL.

It's not some marketing smoke and mirrors thing. They really do support us, and it really does make a difference.

They're approaching $40 million raised for local bookstores, and we'd love to see them hit that milestone this week. 🩵

I need y'all to fully absorb this thread in its entirety.
Book banners always seem confused about how we can call something a ban if the books are still available elsewhere.

I'll put this in a way they'll understand.

When your outreach leader was barred from going within 2500 feet of a playground?

Still a ban even though they sell slides on Amazon.

We just launched our online new and used bookstore. While we carry a bit of everything, we prominently feature books that face bans and challenges in the US, and we donate to organizations that fight book bans... because everyone deserves to see themselves reflected in the stories they read. 🩵

It's a great day to pick up a copy of On Tyranny by Timothy Snyder from your local indie bookstore, or borrow a digital copy from your library, or share a copy in your neighborhood Little Free Library. 🇺🇲

Here’s the thing:

Independent bookstores aren’t *just* bookstores. They are pillars of their communities and supporting them means supporting all of the incredible work they do beyond selling books.

They’re invaluable. Am*zon is not.

If you love audiobooks and you're still buying them from that mega-corporation...

It's time to give Libro a try, friends.

Audiobook purchases from Libro support locally owned bookstores.

They have wonderful sales this week to celebrate Indie Bookstore Day (4/26). Consider selecting our store! 🩵

Tomorrow, a certain online mega-retailer launches a book sale, just days before Indie Bookstore Day on 4/26. This is no coincidence; Bookstore Day is one of the largest revenue drivers for indies.

Indies need our support to thrive & build community spaces for all...mega-retailers do not.

I went over to see @bannedwagonbooks.bsky.social at a book popup this weekend. I bought a blind censored book and she ordered a book for me that I was looking for. Thank you so much. She was so happy to receive this book 😀📚 #booksky

This is exactly why we need to be organized in our defense of the freedom to read. The book banners are organized & we'll funded. But they are also unpopular. Our numbers can beat their money
Majority of attempts to ban books in US come from organised groups, not parents
Last year 72% of demands to censor books were initiated by pressure groups and government entities; with just 16% of ban attempts made by parents

Love this assignment. 🫡

If y'all need a place to start, we have lists of banned books in our bio link.

Our little bookstore donates 5% of our profits to organizations that actively fight book bans in the US, and we try to keep our lists as updated as we can.

Read what they don't want you to read!
Your assignment this week is to read a book that some “Mom for Liberty” would bring to a school board meeting and cry about.

DoD students in Europe and Asia are walking out of classes today in protest of Hegseth's book banning and removal of programs that foster inclusivity.

DoD students in Germany did it a month ago. Today, students in at least 14 schools plan to participate.

A few days before National Library Week, Hegseth's office instructed the US Naval Academy to remove all books that "promote diversity, equity, and inclusion." The list of books removed is available in an brief press release posted on the USNA's website.

[A large-ish. 🧵]

Trying to use this platform more because Meta is a dumpster fire, but it's so quiet over here...

I wish there was a way to quickly and easily find all my Threads pals on this platform.

If you see this and you oppose book banning & censorship, especially if you're in Colorado Springs, say hi? 🤗
