@bakura23.bsky.social
@paulbernal.bsky.social don't know if this is up your alley nose if these are go ammendments or not (not seen the official text) but there's a ammendment written so broad it would make it illegal for an individual to post any porn pic/vid they find to social media bsky.app/profile/mike...
Hidden in the controversial about UK "choking ban" proposal are a host of even more egregious proposals that could:

* make camming illegal
* redefine escort ads as pimping
* render model contracts unenforceable
* criminalize discussions of teen sexuality

And a whole lot more ...
Moral panic about rough sex gives way to censorship in the UK
British regulators and lawmakers are hot on a measure that would make possessing or publishing strangulation porn a crime.

@paulbernal.bsky.social well this was predictable (not the most dangerous part of the whole OSA but predictable) www.androidcentral.com/apps-softwar...
YouTube's age-check AI is once again mistaking adults for children
The system meant to help is breaking (again).

KOSA UPDATE: House lawmakers are considering removing duty of care & KOSA is currently in limbo since the House & Senate versions will differ.

BUT the threat of Bad Internet Bills still looms as the House considers age verification in new kids safety package...

A contentious kids safety bill might be getting gutted — and nobody’s happy
It’s expected to be introduced with a package of kids online safety bills.

@paulbernal.bsky.social of everything from the OSA THIS is the one they chose to delay (delay not revoke it seams) bsky.app/profile/cybe...
"Meanwhile, the regulations to bring in a requirement on providers to report CSAM content to the National Crime Agency have been revoked; they were due to come into force on 3 November and, at the time of writing, there are no further details available as to why they have been reversed." > Curious.

@paulbernal.bsky.social I don't know how to feel about this, yes it's optional but it signals to policy makers that vpn's can block access to sites www.birminghammail.co.uk/news/midland...

@paulbernal.bsky.social well this was sort of predicted, although the version i remember being predicted was "free" VPN's steeling data not straight up malware www.engadget.com/cybersecurit...
Malware apps posing as free VPNs are on the rise
A recent report on the Klopatra malware operation shows hackers taking advantage of a surge in VPN use.

@paulbernal.bsky.social finally a major news outlet (sky) has highlighted the real problem faced by the discord hack news.sky.com/story/discor...
Discord hack shows dangers of online age checks as internet policing hopes put to the test
As the drive for age verification grows, so does the pressure on online companies to keep users' data safe and, as the Discord hack shows, that cannot be guaranteed.

@paulbernal.bsky.social well the bbc is finally telling the discord hack story but naturally no mention of how discord didn't want that data to begin with they only did it because they were forced to by bad laws that should probably be re-looked at www.bbc.co.uk/news/article...
ID photos of 70,000 users may have been leaked, Discord says - BBC News
The platform says hackers targeted a firm that helped to verify the ages of its users.

@paulbernal.bsky.social bit rich of the ICO and ofcom (though don't know why there commenting as it wasn't them) to say imgur pulling out was a commercial decision when the decision was based on how they couldn't commercially operate under the rules they enforce www.bbc.co.uk/news/article...
