A horse is a horse, unless it's the criminal mastermind behind the Evil League of Evil, of course. Watch your step or you'll end up like Wilbur.

They wanted people to respect them and tell them they were right.

It still hasn't happened, and never will, that's why they're mad.

A Trump supporter started murdering his way through an assassination list of Democratic law makers FIVE MONTHS AGO. He murdered my colleague Melissa Hortman, and her husband Mark — and attempted to assassinate my dear friend John Hoffman and his wife Yvette. I was also on the hit list. WTF

No one will ever sum up Bari Weiss's career more succinctly than "what's the point of standards"
“Standards will be eliminated or severely cut back. Bari has told people that she wants to get rid of standards and is shocked that they have so much power. She asks ‘What’s the point of standards?’

We were looking for a good quote to set up the satire here, but nothing clicked. Then Douthat’s op-ed dropped late morning, and well, thank you New York Times yet again.

the right turned clinton saying "deplorable" into a decades long controversy. Trump literally shits on the bulk of Americans and all we can muster is, "oh you should be thinking about something else instead"? come on.
I find this distraction discourse unhelpful. Trump's video was appalling and significant and should be analyzed and denounced, and part of the work of politics is to turn it into a major controversy in its own right, as a symbol of Trump's autocratic disdain for the people.
Obama: The weird videos of a U.S. President with a crown on his head flying a fighter jet and dumping poop on protesting citizens… All of that is designed to distract you from the fact that your situation has not gotten better.

In addition to Garland being too much of a coward for the moment, freezing the investigation before the midterms, when Trump was NOT on the ballot, seems kinda like a tacit admission that the entire Republican party was complicit in the crimes being investigated.
The selection of Garland as AG and his failure to act was about ten bajillion times more consequential than any campaign strategy decision

My favorite part of this has to be when she says "well you should KNOW I meant it to be off the record because I used signal self deleting messages".

Of course, everybody knows that's the universal sign for shady secret things you shouldn't repeat.

EXCLUSIVE: One Saturday afternoon in October, my phone lit up with a notification.

I glanced down at the message.

“Anna, Lindsey Halligan here,” it began.

So began my text exchange with the woman who is prosecuting the president's perceived political enemies.

I've been thinking about that a lot.

Machine learning is fundamentally an optimization problem. And LLMs were optimized to make humans believe they are intelligent.

What if the most efficient way to do that is to con them? Hack their psyche and break their brain.
I really believe generative AI is a cognitohazard to an entire column of humanity. I don't know, there's a something it fucking does to people that displaces their own entirely-capable cognition and independence, further they seemingly cannot perceive the deficits of. This is not a moral argument.
