XCOM 2 may be one of the video games of all time but it's still one of my favorites even if i miss critical 95% chance shots 100% of the time

The urge to write up authors and artists and just say "Hey I like and appreciate your work". It's not one of those veiled, faux-sincere networking things, I just think it's a nice thing to say to people that make things. It is an objectively strange thing to say to somebody unprompted though

Finally managed to get this bare-metal usb device working. So far it's just a push button that sends off-on, but I'm happy with it, I really wish STM's libraries were documented though, a 5 word description in arcane firmware stuff gets old

Even though I've played through Subnautica a couple times now, the vibes are still immaculate. How does a game with almost no mysteries left still make you jump at spooky sounds and murky water

I thought I could make a little midi control surface with some faders as a weekend project, and you CAN if you use arduino but I want to learn STM32 and do it with more portability. Definitely not a weekend project (for me at least), USB has so many moving parts

I stg They Are Billions straight cheats and it's totally fine to save-scum a a single player game that cheats at you

Finished book 4 Wheel of Time, it's getting good. Though, the constant thing where one storyline is getting to its climax and then the next chapter is somewhere completely different, kind of frustrating. Jordan is really hitting us with "Next time on shenanigans with Rand" every 100 pages

Blade and Underworld are timeless. True pillars of modern cinema.

OK serious question, how do people bake in Japan? I've been jonesing for some proper biscuits or cornbread, and my apt has a little fish broiler, not really suitable for baking. I thought of a dutch oven but I don't really have space for something that big :(

I want to find the people making the art and join in the art making. Big team collabs and projects just hit differently, there's something magic when you've got all different disciplines and people firing on all cylinders even if it's to make elaborate shitposts. Sometimes even better. Often tbh

At this point, I'm determined to finish the wheel of time books so I can safely watch 6 hour video essays and finally see what the show is doing without spoiling things

Here's the writeup on the chip8 emulator experience. It was fun, and I ended up doing a whole bit on endian-ness. Fun project, next is some midi, wwise, and usb control stuff. www.austingelber.com/posts/emulat...

I'm still mad midi controllers are so expensive

Something just seems wrong with midi controllers that cost $100+ for a fader or two or some encoders. I wonder if there's some magic difficulty in making those things or if it's just straight margins

I made a Chip8 emulator for fun and practice since I'll be on the job grind again once I'm back from Japan. Blog stuff soon, it was a fun weekend project. Next up, more DSP projects and JUCE. And finishing WoT book 4, it's definitely getting weird and I'm here for it.

Reached the point of Book 4 Wheel of Time that's all the main cast staring dejectedly into the mid-distance while other characters say "what's wrong" and they reply "it's nothing...you wouldn't understand...😭". I hope it doesn't stay like this for 10 more books.

Why isn't there more metal in opera. The opera singer -> metal singer pipeline is legit, classical nerds (self included) are often metalheads, and opera singers can straight up obliterate most theaters without amplification already. Gimme the Lucia mad scene with a sick breakdown

Can every piece be for trombone ensemble. What piece of music can't be improved with between 12 and 76 trombones. Surely nobody will regret between 12 and 76 trombones

As much as I've complained about some fights in Silksong, I was wrong to complain before. But THIS fight, this is worth complaining about. It's a good fight, I'm just hater-adjacent

Clarinet choir is such a great ensemble. Infinite range, infinite dynamics, infinite acrobatics, infinite clarinet types, it's just so much fun. If only I played clarinet

I'd really like to get off windows entirely, but I'm deep in the steinberg ecosystem. Is there a way to get any of that working reliably in any linux distro?

I'll help write the drivers or port things over, pls steinberg, it's the only thing stopping me from going full linux 😭
