Seems a total slam dunk that owners of private jets should pay fuel duties. Doesn't it?

The answer is annoying.

Thread:
Private jets don't pay fuel tax. Now I don't either.
You pay fuel duty. Why don’t billionaires? This week, we launched WeWingAnyCar.com to help you qualify for the same tax breaks that private jets get. Because tax loopholes shouldn’t just be for…

Is the UK addicted to “full independent inquiries”? Does it really take a years-long process costing millions to say it was a mistake to release Hadush Kebatu on Friday? Wouldn’t a faster internal process into what went wrong allow the government to *fix* it faster?

“full independent inquiries”? aren't designed to find out what went wrong, they're designed solely to drag things out until all those involved have been retired, moved on to other jobs or otherwise have left the government.

I live in Paris and I don’t know anyone angry about this. I do know lots of people pissed at the rich not paying enough taxes though.

Yeah but who knows more about Parisians between deputy mayor David Belliard and the Rupert Murdoch writers in London at The times?

Good thread and good responses from people who actually know Paris 👏👏👏
Cars account for just 4.3% of journeys in Paris. So motorists may be 'living in fear' (although that sounds unlikely) but the vast majority of Parisians, far from seeing red, are pretty happy with expanded space for pedestrians, cyclists and public transport users

Who benefits from the abolition of stamp duty land tax?

The first answer: people buying very expensive homes. Average saving for someone buying a £10m+ home is £1.7m. Average saving for someone buying a £250k-£500k home is £5k.

Kemi Badenoch blames those crossing borders for our problems. It’s a lie aimed to distract.

The real issue is a system protecting the super-rich while nurses & carers can’t make ends meet. Tax wealth fairly, fund public services properly. This is how we give Britain hope again.

The silence of European governments about ICE's thuggish activities this weekend in Chicago and Portland is not going to be sustainable for very much longer. If you call it out when you see it in Belarus, you need to call it out when you see it in Illinois.

Every other national party leader was interviewed by Laura Kunesberg during their conference.

Maybe the BBC thought as someone who also supports Palestine - I had nothing to say?

I really enjoyed handing over the leadership baton and introducing @zackpolanski.bsky.social for his brilliant debut conference leader’s speech.

And just before I went on, this lovely video came up on the conference screens. It's so sweet - thank you everyone who had a role in making it 🫶
