using a very broad definition of beautiful here. i don't mean pretty, or pleasing, or not-ugly. i mean beautiful in the way pain, hurt, survival, death, existentialism, doubt, the inherent absurd contradictions of humanity can be beautiful.

but also i mean pretty. that works too.
we are increasingly surrounded by agendas needing to convince us that reality doesn't matter, that our senses & experience & memory & history don't matter. that how we measure & feel & what we love don't matter.

making refutes that. art proves that a lie. make something beautiful. something real.
okay: great novel, lil heartbreaking. neat to see lateral racism/non-Black anti-Blackness. a lot about climate, ultimately. a lot about trust, & power, & how it harms. more than a little bit an exploration of trying to kill hitler (mmm margaret thatcher?) as a young adult, from h/mt's pov. spoilers?
okay it is EXTREMELY WEIRD to read a book with sex scenes and think about the fact that FORMER PRESIDENT OF THE UNITED STATES BARAK OBAMA has also read this.

(the ministry of time, I'm halfway through, the foreshadowing is not making me happy, it's good so far, & it's an ao3 M, not E. BUT STILL.)

It is not wrong to hope

As long as hope does not stop you from acting

By itself, hope is not a plan

Sweeps are violence and it really is that simple. If you live in Portland and have a heart in your body please take the time to testify in person/zoom tomorrow or in writing and ask our city council to reroute money away from sweeps, which do not reduce homelessness. www.portland.gov/council-cler...

Here's another piece about how Portland's methods, ie sweeps without bountiful supportive housing and services for people to be "swept" into, do not work, and kill people www.propublica.org/article/port...
Portland Said It Was Investing in Homeless People’s Safety. Deaths Have Quadrupled.
The city responded to an increase in homeless deaths by intensifying encampment sweeps and adding emergency shelter at the expense of permanent housing. Experts say this has perpetuated the problem.

well. i dunno. spent the part of the afternoon with sun outside putting the final numbers on the plan for our little free fridge. spent the next 2.5 hours curled up on top of the covers crying and clinging to my emotional support dog because less than a dozen dems gave away everything to fascists.

This all the way to the bone marrow. Find things that bring you joy and cling to them like the life preserver they are in the stormy seas of our present moment in history.
I saw someone on my timeline shaming someone else for posting about college football in a time like this.

Folks, if we're going to survive a time like this, we're going to need to avoid burning out from an attitude of 24/7 vigilance and constant outrage.

Let people find joy where they can, please.

I'm not going to pretend that i understand the intricacies of the order (beyond historically being a fan of justice jackson such that she has earned a little trust), but i do know that brief windows of orders are why oregon dhs worked through the night to get people their snap funds for nov.
Referring the admin’s emergency petition to the whole court would have slowed down getting the payments out. We expect a First Circuit decision within the next day, day and a half. Monday a.m. tops. Stay tuned.
#BREAKING: Justice Jackson has issued an "administrative" stay, temporarily pausing a district court order that would've required the USDA to continue using contingency funds to pay SNAP benefits.

The stay expires 48 hours after the First Circuit rules on USDA's request for a stay pending appeal.

"every person has value" the disability take: you do not have to "be productive" to be worthy of existing.

"every person is here to make value" the fascist take: if you're not producing, you're not a person.

(i really really resent "you have agency" being used to mean "so make money or die".)
“God put you here to make a difference. You have agency over your future”

Ah yes, I know growing up my dream was to get healthy enough to help make a trillion dollars for the US economy.

This is eugenics. You do not need to get back to work to have value.

this is the most beautiful, politic, understated way of telling the 1% that the masses are coMING FOR THEIR HEADS so they might wanna embrace, like, "getting taxed" instead.
There is something deeply broken about an economy that creates trillionaires while people get buried under the cost of living and 42 million go hungry. The ultra-rich should realize that my Billionaires Income Tax, aimed at ensuring they pay their fair share, represents the moderate path forward.
