Today's piece is dedicated to a very special bottlenose dolphin, who sadly passed away 4 years ago today, Winter. Even after so many years, I still miss her a lot.

A digital illustration of Winter, a rescued bottlenose dolphin, who lost her tail fluke when she was just a calf. Apart from missing her flukes, she was easily recognizable by her deformed spine, caused by the fact that she had to adapt to a different swimming pattern. From her dorsal fin to her tail, she had a distinctive S shaped curve.

Here’s the most recent piece featuring my headcanon Buzzy and Captain Cortex. I have both updated the art style a bit, as well as updated Cortex’s design. I’m trying to go for more of the type of character that Jason Marsden would voice.

Buzzy and Captain Cortex standing together. Both are leaning towards each other, with Buzzy having his arm crossed while Cortex has his right arm on his shoulder. Both are smiling at the viewer, with Buzzy having his mouth open and Cortex grinning. These are specifically my headcanon designs, so Buzzy has short reddish brown hair, light peach skin with freckles on his cheeks, blue eyes and a muscular build, while Cortex has black hair, light pinkish skin, brown eyes and a more bottom heavy build. Just like the previous drawings, Buzzy’s wearing his green square cap, grey headset, large round glasses, brown aviator jacket, green shirt and pants, and dark grey boots. Cortex is also in uniform, but he prefers a different one, a blue cap, red orange jumpsuit, and white gloves. The only thing that remains consistent are the boots and headset, though the latter is a slightly different design, being silver and dark grey. They’re both also very short with Buzzy being 3ft 1 and Cortex being 3ft 10. Though they have never interacted officially, being just different versions of the same concept, I tend to interpret them not just as separate characters, but as best friends, with a brother-like bond. Cortex being like an older brother and Buzzy a younger brother. Their personalities contrast in the fact that Buzzy is more clumsy and inexperienced, while Cortex is more confident and experienced, but even with their differences, they remain extremely close. The art style is mostly line less, only using lines where needed to enhance details like the mouth or wrinkles. There’s also subtle gradients to give it some shading, as well as a rim light on certain areas like the headsets and hats.

An image featuring all six of the stickers I have made, each a different iteration of Buzzy/Captain Cortex. While all of them are meant to be diminutive in stature, they all differ in terms of their appearance. There’s, of course, Buzzy who wears a more military cadet style green uniform with an oversized brown aviator jacket, green hat, black headset and big round glasses. Unlike most of the other designs, he has tiny black dots for eyes. The second design is a Captain Cortex design by Sue Nichols. He looks very similar to Buzzy in terms of his facial features, but wearing a red orange pilot jumpsuit, white gloves, a blue hat, and a similar headset, though without an antenna. To be clear, the original image does not have actual colors just lineart. I just added the same colors as the audio animatronic based on the Colossal Pictures version. Speaking of which the third one is what the Colossal Pictures version of Cortex looked like. Again, he has a red orange jumpsuit, white gloves, a blue hat and a headset with one antenna in each ear and a mic on the left ear. His face is different with a more bottom heavy structure and more Hannah Barbera style eyes. The fourth is another Cortex design based on the Steve Kirk version. This one has a silver helmet with wings, yellow goggles, and a red suit with white gloves and pants. Overall he has a more gremlin-like appearance. The fifth Cortex design is one featured in the Wonders of Life educational shorts. He is the only one who lacks any sort of military/pilot theming, looking more like a stereotypical 90’s kid, with spicky blonde hair, a green patterned shirt and orange pants. The final design is X. Atencio’s version of the character, who has a yellow and blue uniform with a silver medal and a large blue and yellow helmet that covers half of his eyes.

Not the exciting new thing I was talking about, but hey, it’s something new. I thought I’d do something for Halloween, even if it’s not inherently meant to be spooky. Then again spooky is subjective and I’m sure some robots/animatronics think mechs are scary.

On the right half of the screen, it shows him as he normally looks with his latex mask, hair and his regular clothes, but using a mostly purplish blue color scheme with the exception of a bit of teal and green for his eyes. On the left half, you can see his mechanisms, with his head she’ll having sort of a neon green color, while the rest of his body has a purplish color. It’s not inherently meant to be scary, but hey, people think skeletons = spooky, so I guess the same applies to robots and animatronics.

He has tiny green dots for eyes, though sometimes his screen displays eyebrows to help him express himself better. On the side of his ears, he has rings, but they only serve as power indicators. In terms of clothes, he wears a red hoodie with black on the bottom half, dark blue jeans and red Converse style shoes.

Rocket is an animatronic built to be a meet and greet version of a fictional character named Yester Noon, so while he’s still humanoid, his proportions are more cartoony and he is much shorter. He has straight black hair, a warm beige latex mask with a smile permanently sculpted on it, big eyes with cameras for pupils, thick eyebrows and a pair of three eyelashes. He wears a dark purple hat with fuchsia on the underside of the rim, a black jacket with purple on the collar, dark purple gloves with fuchsia stripes, light blue cuffed jeans and dark purple shoes with fuchsia laces.

Probably gonna be a while before I upload something new. I’ll repost some old stuff in the mean time. I have drawn new things, it’s just that some are PNGs and because Bluesky messes them up, it’s tedious to go back and make a background. I do have some very cool stuff coming soon though.

I still had one of Pearl’s friends to design, so here’s Opal. I super loved drawing each one of these aliens. Coming up with color morphs for a fictional species is fun.

A 50s sci-fi poster style render of one of my alien OCs, Opal standing while looking happily at someone offscreen . The background is designed to look like a mix between outer space and the sky during twilight hours, using a color scheme that consists of bluish black, wine, teal and light green. Opal has similar markings to a leopard, with an amber and white coloration with blue line running along the white parts. Unlike Pearl and Jasper, her darker markings are more of an orange color instead of the typical purple. Her eyes are light blue leaning towards a turquoise color. Just like Pearl and her friends, she’s a cat-like alien with a penguin-like body type. Apart from her coloration, the best way to tell her apart is her height, long neck and slightly heart shaped head with a big jaw.

Been a while since I last drew Mike, so here’s a redesign. I changed his color scheme to match more closely with Vinyl, Rocket and R.J., since he lives with them. I tend to prefer designing characters in a way where they’d fit into a specific friend group.

He is stall and skinny, with a slightly round face with a dark brown latex mask, a silver visor with a teal screen and green eyes, and long black locs in the style of a bob cut. In terms of clothes, he wears an orange flat cap, a yellow long sleeve sweater with an orange stripe on the middle, blue jeans, yellow socks and orange shoes. Mike is very confident and very friendly, always willing to help anyone, no matter what.

Okay, so it turns out I never shared Rocket's cowboy look here. Well, now that I've revisited that design, ya'll get to enjoy it. Out of the main trio, he's the one that has the most variety in terms of clothes. He's just the type of guy to try different styles.

Some recent Captain Cortex fanart I’ve made, the official design of course, not my headcanon version. Now, why am I once again revamping the way I draw Cortex’s official design? Because we now have a full body drawing of him, the more Colossal Pictures style design, to be specific.

He is drawn standing up with a happy expression and the art style is similar to that of older cartoons with flat art styles like Roger Ramjet.

New month, new design for my mall rat sona. I've been meaning to do so for a while but kept getting distracted. Not much has changed apart from the color scheme, a slightly different way of stylizing the hair, overall art improvement and the addition of small whiskers.

A nighttime scene of streetlamp in the middle of nowhere near a canyon. Technically speaking, it's underwater, so the colors are mostly blue, with some green hues around the light. Since this takes place in my Cranium Command headcanon, I added Buzzy and Captain Cortex, who are sort of lost. Buzzy's visibly nervous, while Cortex is still confident that a bus might stop by soon.

My headcanon version of Buzzy from Cranium Command talking to someone offscreen while sitting on a rock in a field full of pink grass and fuchsia coral-like trees. I like to imagine the world of Cranium Commandos as being submerged in cerebrospinal fluid and similar to many underwater environments and that the Cranium Command's various bases are located in more natural areas, so there's a lot of fields where brain pilots can just relax during their time off.

Another one of my cetacean OCs, Koharu an adult female false killer whale. She has a long slender body with an oval shaped head, dark grey coloration with a darker dorsal cape and light grey underside markings, and blueish grey eyes. Since she's just a normal whale, she's not as expressive as Seymour, though she's quite outgoing in terms of personality.

Trying something else with my cetacean illustrations. I've done illustrations like this before, but this time I wanted to see just how realistic I can go in terms of lighting and shading with on airbrushes. I drew a Norwegian killer whale, because yes.

Like other North Atlantic orcas, they tend to be stubbier with slightly rounded dorsal fins, pectoral flippers and tail flukes. As mentioned before, this individual is an adult male, so he has massive pectoral flippers, a tall dorsal fin and curled tail flukes. This particular piece has a background with deep blue water, and it's made to look as if the whale is popping out of it.

A fun piece I did a while ago. Apart from wanting to show the comparison between a typical grey alien and Pearl, I thought it would be cool to show what people think they see when they encounter her, since it often happens at night in low visibility.

A sketch of stereotypical grey alien next to my alien OC, Pearl. Though she’s a cat-like alien with a similar body type to a penguin, such details may not be seen clearly in certain lighting conditions. That combined with the pop culture image of what an alien would look like often causes people to interpret her and other individuals of her species as something far more humanoid.
