The fact that the USA is the world's premier destination for science & innovative research is one of the most important drivers of our economic strength & competitiveness. And it isn't a given. If we slash funding, attack universities, limit skilled immigration, we will cede this critical advantage.

It feels like no one should have to say this, and yet we are in a situation where it needs to be said, very loudly and clearly, before it’s too late to do anything about it: The United States is not a startup. If you run it like one, it will break.

Bit of an experiment for those of you not deep in the weeds of immigration. I’ve got a question for you.

Imagine a woman from India with an MA degree. She has a job lined up willing to sponsor her for an immigrant visa. How long do you think it will take to get the visa?

Reply below. No googling!

Simple climate solutions are usually the best ones.

That's why we need an “Occam’s Razor” for the planet.

Most overlooked climate science + policy finding:
Ten years ago, national policies had us on pace for ~4 C or more warming (IPCC statement at left, 2014 report).
Today, national policies, if fully implemented, have us on pace for ~3 C of warming (IPCC statement at right, 2023 report).

The International Court of Justice is working on an advisory opinion on the legal obligations of countries in preventing climate change.

I helped a team of IPCC authors to prepare evidence for the court, which was delivered yesterday.

I get the pushback to Bluesky in that it further bifurcates our media ecosystem. But at this point, Twitter’s content moderation is so nonexistent and its verified users so extreme that the choice becomes either move away from Twitter or be subjected to straight up 4chan nazi bile on a daily basis.

Politics aside, EV sales have nowhere to go but up as battery costs continue to decline and battery performance continues to improve.
