I seem to have written a thread about writing and business that is kind of a pep talk for writers early in their careers. ⬇️
Just noting she’s saying after a publishing deal, writing ceases to be JUST fun. It can still be fun. But it’s also a lot of other things. I still find so much joy in writing, and sometimes it is indeed a whole lot of fun. But the job elements are also always present, and I like that.
Unsolicited writing advice, no: 235
As soon as you get a publishing deal, writing ceases to be just fun. It becomes a responsibility - to your readers, your publisher, all the people whose livelihoods now depend partly on you. Make sure you understand what this means. Make sure it's what you want.
