I have been charged in a federal indictment sought by the Department of Justice.

This political prosecution is an attack on all of our First Amendment rights. I’m not backing down, and we’re going to win.

UNTIL IT’S DONE, Ep. 4: Sylvia Rivera

In the 1970s, queer New Yorkers had been pushed to the margins of NYC. Our trans neighbors faced immense cruelty. But in Sylvia Rivera, they found a champion.

As we combat Trump’s politics of darkness, her legacy can light the path forward.

what ezra doesn't seem willing to accept is that charlie kirk was part of a political movement that does not think that "we are going to have to live here with each other" and is fact very interested in the elimination and/or subjugation of many, many people
"All I can say for me in the work I do is that I want to create a space that takes our disagreements seriously, that takes the stakes of them seriously, the consequences for people seriously, but does so without deepening our divisions irreparably. We are going to have to live here with each other"

also: take WHICH disagreements seriously? like, i can disagree with someone who believes the tax rate for the wealthy should be lower than what i would like. i will not enter into a "debate" with someone who believes Black women are inferior or that LGTBQ people should be stoned.

the point of this btw is not some lame I-told-you-so, it's that if you're not already, you should be making a point of listening to people who were right 3, 6, 9, 12, 24, 48 months ago, and ignoring people who've been consistently wrong in that time period. and we should be jettisoning pols too
everyone who said dems needed to be fighting for every single inch and delaying trump’s staffing and govt funding as much as possible was right. everyone who said to lay low and wait for trump to self-impeach was wrong.

These executive orders on banning federally funded entities from recognizing trans people or disallowing them from using the bathroom are not self-executing or immediately enforceable. They require formal rule making at a minimum. They are a scare tactic. Ignore and do not comply in advance.

if there's a needle exchange program in your area, they probably have needles in whatever sizes you need to do your HRT injection, plus sharps containers, alcohol pads, etc., all free. here's a list of centers in New York (city & state): www.health.ny.gov/diseases/aid...

TLDR: There is nothing enforceable for the immediate future. It will take months or years to implement this via rulemaking or bureaucratic changes which are then subject to legal challenge. While it's worrying, there's no immediate change yet for most trans people. Do not comply in advance.

want to be excruciatingly clear about this: TikTok didn't have to go dark last night and it didn't have to turn back on this morning.

both of those were voluntary moves that the law does not directly touch.

my most annoying hot take is I think the rise of a culture oriented entirely against cringe was aimed, consciously or not, at destroying anti-trump resistance. Caring about things earnestly is cringe and trump, somehow, is not, because he sucks and that's ... better than caring about stuff?
There is an emerging conventional wisdom that resistance to Trump went too far and I am going to lose my mind.
